DU bartenders can you help me with this one?
I need to take a guy in Russia a bottle of good American whiskey.
(He says American whiskey in Russia is made in Turkey What brand should I get? He is a wonderful person and I would like to take something good.

I'm sure he would appreciate some good sipping Whiskey from Amerika. And the bottle would make a nice keepsake.

4. Kentucky
Here is a good link for you to read about Kentucky Bourbon and Whiskey- and the (slight) difference between them.

This (ex) bartender drinks Jack Daniels, or Jim Beam exclusively....but, never turn my nose up at Turkey---that said, I would take Jack every single time if offered.

15. But Jack Daniels is too common type of a whiskey
I mean if you're buying strictly for name recognition then I suppose Jack Daniels is the way to go. But if you want to buy something that tastes great and worthy of a good friendship then by all means you should go with Makers or Knob Creek. I don't drink much whiskey, but I can't touch JD without gagging, but the upscale stuff are great for sipping.

But in perspective - it's the same thing with tequila. Jose Cuervo is the name recognized brand of tequila, but if someone gave me a bottle of it (or if I gave someone a bottle) - well, it's just a crappy bottle of poorly made tequila. If someone wanted a recommendation on tequila I would go with either Herradura or Don Patron and at minimum the gold

Edited on Wed Mar-02-05 11:03 AM by Rabrrrrrr
Don't take Jack Daniels or Jim Beam or Johnnie Walker (unless you take the real expensive versions). Those are just cheap whiskies with not much character or interesting nature.

All three that I mentioned are really excellent.

14. I was just going to recommend Knob & Maker's myself
JD is a cheap, commerical type of whiskey along the lines of what Jose Cuervo and Smirnoff Vodka.

If this is a really good friend, I strongly recommend any of the above trio. I hate whiskey but I've ahd Knob & Maker's - both are quite excellent sipping whiskeys (actually I think they are bourbon)

16. Wild Turkey bourbon. Maybe Wild Turkey 101. Ooh! You can
get darling little miniature samplers of all kinds of good whiskeys! Bring him a big bottle of something (Maker's Mark---yum!) and then a nice selection of miniatures!

I love scotch (you bet I've got Johnnie Walker Blue!) but don't bring him scotch if he wants whiskey!
