1. I think "cowboy up" means to tough it out
I've seen it used a few times on here and heard it once on tv recently. I don't know about the monkey thing. Haven't seen it yet.

3. Do you mean the rally monkey?
Don't know how the Anaheim Angels came up with that one.

4. I believe they just played some file footage of the Ace Ventura/Friends
monkey and the Angels came back to win...It obnoxiously grew from there.

5. Mortification?
http://www.cowboyupproductions.com/cowboy_up.htm

I have thought of it as what someone says when the rider mounts the bull, with both literal and intestitudinal meaning.

7. It's a rodeo term
When the cowboy is ready to compete, he gives a signal to the gatekeeper. The gatekeeper yells "Cowboy up!" to let the rest of the ring workers know it's time for the action to begin. Then they turn the cowboy loose and let some million-pound animal attempt to stomp him into jelly.

9. I think one of the Red Sox players used the phrase
I'm not sure if he's a Southerner or what exactly the phrase means, but I think that's when the team members all decided to shave their heads/get buzz cuts. Some boys who are fans did the same thing. Maybe they're looking like cowboys?
