Lordy, I looooove the movie "Sense and Sensibility"
with Emma Thompson, Kate Winslet, Hugh Grant and ... Alan Rickman, sigh. He just showed up as Col. Brandon. Love Alan Rickman! I love this movie!

To me, aside from it just being a wonderfully made and acted film, it is very peaceful and calming and reassuring, somehow. A great escape.

1. It is a gem of a movie.

Beautifully cast, beautifully acted. Wonderful editing. Great work from director Ang Lee, who really gets to the heart of the characters in his preparation work with the actors. Read Emma Thompson's diaries on the production.

And what a cast! That's Imelda Staunton, a Best Actress nominee this year for "Vera Drake," playing the silly chatterbox Charlotte Palmer. Hugh Laurie (TV's "House") is her sardonic husband. There's more able support from stalwarts like Harriet Walter, Robert Hardy, Gemma Jones and Elizabeth Spriggs. And of course, Kate Winslet, all of 20 years old, did an amazing job as Marianne.

We'll be enjoying this film for years to come.

2. Colonel Brandon was my favorite character....
I love that movie and am thinking about buying the DVD since my rental fees equate to the cost already....

3. I'll let you know when I buy the DVD!
The DVD has loads of extras and is something I've been coveting for some time. ("Uh, heavy on the 'covet,' Father" -- George Carlin)

The movie is a classic, and I think you should either treat yourself or ask for someone to get you the DVD for a present. I'm sure Alan Rickman would approve.

5. I love it as well. It adapts the book very well.
I think Jane would have approved.

Alan Rickman is such a wonderful Col. Brandon. I totally lost my heart to him in that movie.

Years later when I saw the first Harry Potter movie I couldn't figure out why I was so attracted to Professor Snape! :D
