Is Paul McCartney the Jeff Gannon of rock and roll?
I'm not saying that Paul McCartney is a Republican shill or that he is a prostitute or on the Internet in his underwear, but with the FCC crackdown, you could say that he's a representation on the media of some facet of the administration. Last year it was Janet Jackson and her boobie sun, now with the crackdown, he is put forth in front of the people, even if unwillingly or unwittingly, as a representation of the FCC crackdown, especially since people compare his act to the Janet Jackson boobie sun as representative of something.

Oasis, I imagine, wasn't even called to do this halftime show, despite the fact that they are more popular than Paul McCartney.

Score one for Oasis.

1. I remember when
we were being 'warned' about the Beatles leading us down the commie path and brainwashing our young minds w/ their decadent music; when fundies were organizing bonfires for their records, fan mags and books (over Lennon's mis-represented statement). I find it odd that McCartney is now considered safe.

3. I have a book that quotes from both some US fundie and the Soviet Union's
Pravda. Both, as you say, accused the Beatles of brainwashing youth, only the fundie said it was a Commie plot and Pravda said it was the capitalists.

15. The Christian Right are just as fundamentalist as the Soviets
They want society based on a document---wether it be the Bible or the writings of Marx, Engels and Lenin.

5. Is this ever going to stop?
Do you really think that Oasis was considered for the Superbowl halftime show, even though they haven't had a hit record in the states in almost ten years? Truly?

I think perhaps it's time to stage an intervention. ;-)

6. right
definitely maybe was a great cd, morning glory was decent-but oasis imploded in a drug-addles mess after just two albums and aren't even taken seriously in the UK now

meanwhile, their rival band, the much superior Blur, soldiers on with edgy, artsy, low key releases and keeps getting better

8. You mean a kidnapping?
I might show up at a Chicago DU gathering or something, you could stage it there.

I'm also known to show up at the "Progressive Social Hour" that came out of the weekly Kerry meetups and is still going on after the election.

9. There's a convenient one this Sunday
2PM, Celtic Crossings on Clark St, just south of Chicago Ave. Show up and we can have a little "discussion" about this Oasis fixation of yours. :D

7. Well, after seeing some of the "special" pics of Gannon, it depends
on whether Paul brings an extra leg to his bedroom or not :D
