Do you have an irrational hatred of anything?
I think if I had to narrow it down to one thing it would be people who own canary yellow vehicles. Something about them just pisses me off. I don't know if it is the fact that anyone driving a canary yellow vehicle usually has a nicer vehicle than I do. Maybe I have the perception that people with vehicles that color are desperate attention whores who are trying to get noticed by having a vehicle that looks retarded.

I just don't know, but I know I hate them.

1. OK now that IS irrational
I dislike yellow for a car but I think perhaps the people who drive them just like the color yellow!

Hmmmm......irrational hatred - not sure if this counts but any kind of repetitive noise drives me just nuts. Irritates me no end. I have noticed very often others around me don't notice but I certainly do. And people who WHISTLE - g.d. I just want to KILL them.

I wouldn't mind it if they didn't put those loud pipes on them. All I see when they ride by is a pathetic person that feels they don't get enough attention. I will give you a hint "harley-boy" people aren't looking at you in envy or admiration- they want to see where the noise pollution is coming from. Edited on Wed Feb-09-05 06:38 PM by alarimer
I deal with this while trying to get into my apartment complex in the evening. The street I have to turn from is very busy and I often have to sit through 3-4 changes of the light before I can turn left.

I hate the noun "learnings" - "I think today's market research resulted in some important learnings"

And grande, tall, whateverthehell when it's freaking SMALL, MEDIUM AND LARGE. When I'm with clients who insist on Starbucks, I'll be damned if I'll order a freaking "tall" coffee. It's SMALL, MEDIUM OR LARGE. Feh. They taste burned anyway

33. Or "chicken-fried chicken"
Just call it fried chicken and get it over with!

When I worked for a semiconductor manufacturer, I used to hear words and phrases used in all kinds of moronic ways. I just chalked it up to dumb people trying to sound smart.

offline
"We don't have time to address that in this meeting, let's talk about it offline." Sorry, I hadn't realized we were online. What's wrong with just saying "later" instead?

bandwidth
"I don't have the bandwidth to get to that today." You are not a file server, nor are you a wireless router--if you don't have the time, just say so!

small form factor
In other words, it's small.

grow
"We're trying to grow our marketshare." By increasing it, maybe?

aspirational
My actual response: "What the hell is she talking about?"

price point
"We'll have to check the price point." How 'bout just checking the price?

authored
"Hank authored a paper that just got published." Can't people just use "wrote"? If he wrote it, then it stands to reason that he's the author.

These are just the ones I can think of right offhand--I think I've successfully "forgotten" all the others. Why do people insist on making language more complex? (Or to use Rumsfailed's term, "complexify," another word that just sounds idiotic.)

Sorry for the rant. :)

68. Well, fried chicken is whole pieces with bone in, etc.
Dipped in batter and fried, but it's usually a light crispy batter.

Chicken fried chicken is a breast, no bone, also dipped in batter and fried, but it's a heavier batter more like that used for chicken-fried steak. At least that's how they eat it around here! ;)

Ooooooo... the marketing guys... they move their mouth and it sounds like English but it doesn't make any sense.

We need to have a platform that appeals to a cross-sector of the market, including SMB as well as enterprise blah blah blah blah blah... I honestly can't remember anything they say, it just slides smoothly across my brain and doesn't sink in! :)

31. American use of the term "fiancee"
Totally irrational hatred of mine... I'm not anti-French at all. I like the language; took four semesters in college, though still nowhere near fluent. And I don't mind other French expressions used by Americans. But for some reason this term just grates on me. Probably 'cause I hear a lot of pretentious-acting people with tiny vocabularies who toss this fancy-sounding word around so casually. Because of a few annoying people using it, it got to me to where I don't like to hear English-speaking people saying it at all. I also don't like the term "my bad." Just always thought it sounded dumb...

55. People who feed pigeons
Disgusting, filthy, disease-laced little animals.

I acknowledge it's irrational because I understand some people have nothing whatsoever to do and want to feel "useful" somehow. But hell, why can't they spend the money to buy something for a homeless shelter or orphanage? Or volunteer?

60. If you sterilize them before releasing then no, I don't.
I read some time ago about feeding contraceptive-laced corn to city pigeons to try and reduce the mess in big cities. Don't know if it was ever put in preactice anywhere.

Just kidding about the hate. I was just scouring my mind to find something I dislike the most disproportionately to its importance. But it's true I'm no friend of pigeons, especially in very big cities like the one I live in.

80. It's not irrational.
The only thing I hate more than when fall rolls around and I have to yank the window AC units out and find them covered in pigeonshit is when I have to listen to the critters copulating on the AC units. Get a room, you little feathered freaks!

70. The element Thallium.
I hate that element. I just can't stand it. It is definitely the worst element in the periodic table. It's worse than Francium!

It doesn't even behave like the other members of its group Gallium, Indium and Aluminum. Just what is this crap anyway with a monovalent oxidation state! Who the fuck does Thallium think it is?

Rat poison, toxic sludge, heavy, rare and generally useless, I think Thallium seriously sucks.

74. Whipped cream
Yuck. I cater as a hobby and when I make whipped cream frosting I have to taste it before using it to check the sweetness, texture, etc and I just hate it. Love all other forms of cream though - liquid, sour, creme fraiche, you name it.
