I'm going to be there for a total of three days.

I know there's no possible way to see everything in that amount of time, so for those of you who've been before, what are some must-see attractions that I should take in while I'm there.

I also include the caveat that I'm going with my wife, so girlie shows and brothels are out of the question. ;-)

3. check out
Bellagio, Venetian and Caesar's Palace - they're all worth walking through just to see the casino and shops.

Luckily for you, there are no brothels in Las Vegas proper, so you won't be tempted.

If you can, go up to the top of the Eiffel Tower at City of Paris to watch the fountain show across the street at Bellagio - it occurs every half hour or so at night, so it should be easy.

6. remember Vegas is 24/7........
no brothels in city limits.

But I would check out some of the shows they are really good..dinner/show & then win some money. My first time we got there at about 1030 am and never went to bed until 730 am the next morning.

big hit. They retooled/recast it and it's the talk of the town...only $30 a ticket.

I can't stand Celine, so she doesn't get my vote. See Cirque's "O" if you get a chance...tix are expensive, though, $95. Rita Rudner and Cirque's Zumanity are at New York/New York.

If you want to see a girly show, why not take wifey to Chippendales at the Rio, then do a girly show like Follies Bergere or the one at MGM, La Femme? Could lead to fun in the room later.

I agree - see Ceasars and the Forum Shops (they just opened a new area that's pretty spectacular), the Bellagio and The Paris. If you want to sample a buffet, go at lunch - they have almost all of the same food as dinner but it's $10 less than dinner. The Bellagio is the best buffet, followed by the Paris and the Rio. Mandalay Bay's buffet is overpriced and not so good. If you really want to splurge, take her to Le Cirque at Bellagio. The best French food on the Strip - but you must wear a jacket & tie. Make a reservation...it'll cost you $200-300 for two - minimum.

You might also check out The Venetian...take a gondola ride. But it's always packed there due to all of the conventions they run out of the Sands which is on the back of The Venetian. In addition, there's a big construction project at the Strip and Spring Mountain - overhead crosswalks being put in to accomodate Wynn's new place which opens in April. It's dirty and messy there these days. Avoid it.

If you're going to gamble, avoid the high-priced casinos...the odds aren't so good...lower payoffs. The local establishments pay back at a higher rate. Take a trip to the old downtown at Freemont street. Better odds and a nice light show at night.

Other than that, if you're driving, stay on the Strip. We locals need Frank Sinatra Dr, Industrial and Koval to be tourist-free if we're to navigate the town during business hours!

I saw one or two car accidents a day in the week I was there last March.

People are gawking and the cabbies are terrible.

The shows are fun though, and they have a pretty new monorail thing.

The Venetian is awesome.

9. walk in and around the Bellagio, the Venetian and the Luxor.
Do the buffets at the better places; the buffets are wonderful there. The fountains at the Bellagio are so terrific and so is the inside of that hotel. Check the Dale Chihuly glass ceiling artwork at the Bellagio reception area. Walk the shops and outside of the Venetian too. Magnificent. The Luxor is amazing too

10. Pray for your soul, and the souls of the countless gambling addicted
people there, and pray for the people who support a huge mafia-driven and evil-empire-driven economy that helps no one but a few, and hurts - to the point of utter destruction at times - thousands, probably tens of thousands, every year.

And absolutely make the most of the cheap ass prime rib and shrimp cocktails! Also, I believe Elton John is replacing that no-talent fucking corporate unartistic whore Celine Dion for a number of weeks, so you might go to see him.

And if you win money, please consider donating a portion of it to help people with gambling addictions. Vegas - and all casinos - are no different than the cigarette mnufacturers who make ther shit addictive.

11. You need an update on Vegas, my friend.
Edited on Wed Feb-09-05 02:36 AM by stopbush
1. The mob is gone. The mob now are big corporations. Some liked the old mob days better...

2. An economy that helps only a few? There's 1.5 million people here with 6,000 more arriving each month. Valet car jockeys at the big casinos can make $50k-70k per year. A card dealer does just as well. The chamber maids all own their homes. Yes, many jobs pay crap compared to the going rate around the country, but other jobs pay great...like construction. And if you're stuck in a minimum-wage or low-paying job, at least the cost-of-living isn't as bad as the coasts.

3. Addictions. Yep. They're here. But 99% of the 38-million tourists who visit each year aren't gambling addicted. I know very few locals who gamble outside of hitting the slots at Vons or the local Coast casinos. I saw a lot more drug addicts and booze hounds sleeping on the streets of NYC when I lived there than I've seen/heard of gambling addicts here in Vegas. I miss NYC...

4. Do NOT eat at the buffets with cheap-ass prime rib and shrimp cocktails...unless you want to become addicted to immodium and Gas-X. Spend a few $ more for quality food at the great buffets.

5. If you win some $, donate a part to DU. We've got plenty of well-funded programs out here to help the gambling addicted. Moot point, though. Even if you win, you'll just blow the winnings on something else out here...

And if you're going to pray, avoid the churches...there's gambling there, too. Well, bingo...

12. Bellagio!!!
This is the place to go to feel like the rich and famous even if you are neither. Absolutely a stunning buffet. A little more pricy than some of the others, but all you can eat King crab legs, wonderful Asian and other ethnic foods, etc.

The CONSERVATORY and botanical garden at Bellagio is breathtaking

The lobby has a magnificent glass flower presentation....

Finally, the "dancing" fountain show outside makes for a romantic finale.

Not far away is the 'new' Aladdin which has a fascinating shopping mall, all done in a Moroccan motif. Not your typical 'mall' it is more of a bazaar with specialty shops and all sorts of interesting booths.

===

If you are totally crazy and a thrillseeker head to Stratosphere where you can ride a ride which drops you over the edge of the tower (1149 feet) and suspends you in midair looking down at your possible doom. Or just ride the coaster up 100+ stories.

13. The Liberace Museum is a gas, if you want to take a break from casino
stuff. Also the Ripley Believe It Or Not Museum, if it's still there.

(I'm not a casino person, so when I had to be in Las Vegas I checked out the offbeat stuff.)

14. 2 Days in Vegas and a one day trip
Vegas has a lot to offer, but mostly its shows and gambling. I'd pick a show that you want to see. There are some wonderful shows there.

I would dop a day trip to Lake Mead and Hoover Dam. Most hotels have tours that work with them.

As for the cool sites, the Volcano show and Pirate show can be done one night while walking the strip. I would go for the Gondola ride in the Venetian and eat in the Palatza there. Then I would head over to the Paris and go up the Eiffel Tower and watch the Fountains at Bellagio across the street from up there. Thats all in one night.

During the day the zoo at Caesars and pond at the Flamingo are cool. I would have breakfast at the Flamingo and watch the birds in the center. Very cool. The Hard Rock pool is currently being remodeled, otherwise it is the best pool in Vegas. Shopping at Seasars is great and the moving roman statues are pretty cool.

Drinks at the Pink Taco bar in the Hard Rock is also a must. Great bar ccene there.

Have fun.
