Confused kitty nursing mice
Family discovers its cat nursing mice

(snip)

"I don't know where she found them," Weller said. "But clearly she found them and brought them in instead of killing them."

It appears Patches is in a real maternal groove.

"She's actually feeding the mice," Weller said.

At one point during the day the Weller kids were playing with the mice outside the den area.

"Patches was upset they weren't in the bed," Weller said. "All she wanted to do was lick them.

"When we put them back in the bed Patches calmed right down."

4. I think it's sweet
While it is true that the mice probably won't thrive on cat's milk, I think it is quite possible that the kittens will not regard the mice as playthings. I've seen kittens & baby birds that were raised together get along fine.

5. Cats are great mothers
They're always fostering kittens from other litters and even unrelated animals. They've been known to foster puppies, squirrels and rabbits, as well as rodents.

Heh, it's how we know cats are leftists. They're generous.
