he got the name not because he thought he was so great, but because of a music store in Dublin called Bono Vox or the like. His band mates gave him that name. Also, he's a failed guitarist ... he originally never wanted to be the lead singer. Pretentious? I don't know, I can't judge him since I don't know him. Seems to me he puts his fame to good use for some good causes, and does it for more than public relations.
