Anyone remember the 1964 dance craze called THE JERK?
Edited on Sat Jan-22-05 08:25 PM by NightTrain
The Jerk was a hot new dance in 1964. I'm damned if I know how you did it, but I have several soul records that capitalized on the craze. The biggest ones included "Come On, Do The Jerk" by the Miracles, "Jerk It" by the Gypsies, "The Jerk" by the Larks (a #1 R&B hit), and, in early 1965, Wilson Pickett's "In The Midnight Hour," which producer Jerry Wexler conceived with the Jerk in mind. Finally, in 1966 (after the craze had essentially died down), the Capitols had the top ten smash, "Cool Jerk."

2. I actually know how to do it
I went through a '60s dance-craze phase while I was in high school - I think from watching old episodes of "Hullaballoo" and "Shindig." :D

9. Me too! I used to learn dances watching those shows.
The boogaloo, the shingaling. But I was in grammar school then.

10. And, lest we forget
The Shag, The Watusi, The Mashed Potato, The Swim, The Peppermint Twist, The Frug - the list goes on...

In Junior High School, I won a bar of Beatles Personality Soap for dancing with Janice 'Somebody', but since I can't even remember her name I'll be damed if I can remember what dance we were doing, but I'm guessing it was to a Beatles tune. :)
