Personally, I think "Imagine" is an utterly dreadful song.
The lyrics are cliched and simplistic, the tune is hackneyed and it really isn't worthy of a talent like Lennon's. As far as that type of anthem goes, it has nothing on Bowie's "Heroes".

6. To each his own. Ever heard Neil Young do it?
Personally, I like the simplistic lyrics- I think that was his point-peace is not rocket-science...why should the idea of world peace be mired in fancy-pants metaphors?

12. Yeah, they still owe us for Loverboy
IIRC Canada never officially apologized for them. Although to give credit where credit is due, they promptly apologized for Celine Dion.

And we don't want to admit that.

20. On a much happier note, I just missed the...
Guess Who's concert in Winnipeg three years ago by about a day and a half. We were supposed to get tickets from one of our friends, but she could only purchase three (herself, husband and daughter), and by the time we got to the ticket office, they were sold out. I heard from them later that it was a fantastic show.

That makes the song worse for me, knowing it comes from the writer of 'Isolation', 'God' and 'In My Life'.

10. That was Dennis Kucinich's campaign song last year
...and I'm pleased to say that I've played it a couple campaign events he appeared at, too. I didn't like it at first, but it's kind of grown on me, like a tumor or a fungus of some sort.

To each his own, I guess.

29. Maybe it sounds cliche to you because there have been about 95,000
hit songs written since then.
The fact it was written some 33 years ago and that it still resonates with so many is a sign that it is a song with lasting value, methinks. Its simplicity makes it universal, as well.
My two bits' worth.
