Here I thought I'd forgotten completely about that bunch of ditwits led by a hairdresser, and you remind me of them and their merry-go-round video.

25. Metal hair vs. Dorky New Waver hair.
good distinction. While metal hair is goofy, there is no excuse for what you found. These people are guilty and should be punished beyond the full extent of the law! :)

3. Winger had big hair and GREAT teeth.
None of these were particularly bad within the crap genre they were in. You have to seek out the truly terrible "B" level acts to ask this question, like Girlschool, or some of the other filler crap.

I hated Hair Metal.

30. Excellent
Yeah, I voted Bon Jovi because they are way more successful than they deserve to be, and JBJ has the delusion it's because he's talented.

Oddly enough, I think he's an okay actor. He's just such a lame songwriter, and his stage act is so "polished". ICK!

And I know from a reliable source that he "only" accepts blowjobs from groupies because he doesn't consider that cheating on his wife. What a tool!

6. Slaughter - by virtue of the name alone
So what if it happenned to be the guy's name? It was still wrong to use a death-metal sounding band name for that cheese ballad crap.

Not that Poison and Winger didn't suck massively as well, they were just more honest about playing for the 14 year old girl crowd.

Winner of the most obnoxious overall band "look" as well as music. IMHO.

22. I worked for Stryper.
My time in another reality that had absolutely no relationship to any other reality that exists, has existed or may exist, in this or any other time/space continuum. An unbelievably negative experience.

Their crew was made up of some of the most horrid people ever to walk the earth. Each more horrible and noxious that the other, in some perverse competition to be the biggest, most hypocritical, lying-sack of-shit-jackoffs on the planet.

Presumably, many may be working in the maladministration now. It would explain a lot.

The lead singer, Michael Sweet, is now peddling his ass with short hair and a more conservative music and message.

Frankly, he's just gotten old and fat and it's all he really has. I saw him on TV and he was just...sad.

14. Enough with the Stryper bashing
OK, the transvestite bees thing was way overdone, but musically, they were a Hell of a lot better (pardon the pun) than 3/4 of their contemporaries.

I will concede, however, that "Honestly" was a truly awful ballad.

27. now come on
I like most of those groups, and have seen a few in concert ha ha... When I saw Poison my seat wasn't too good, so they kind of looked like hot chicks to me from where I was standing. Are we voting worst hair or worst band? For band I pick Winger! For hair, I dunno, so many choices. EVERY band back then played up the hair. Even Pantera, check out their look from their first album -

29. Cinderella was a good band; I object to their inclusion in the poll.
They did some really good blues-based hard rock. I have a couple of albums, and I've seen them in concert a couple of times. I really liked that band a lot.

That said, I do agree with the rest of the bands in the poll as belonging on a worst hair-band list.

Disclosure: I loved hard rock music of the hair band era; wrote about music for regional rock mags at the time and specialized in this genre of music. Yes, a lot of them played poppy crap that appealed to 14-year-old girls. But, a lot of them played some really good music: Guns'N'Roses, Whitesnake, Cats In Boots (who nobody knew about, unfortunately), Bang Tango, Spreadeagle, Jackyl--I'm sure there were more, but I'm too tired to think right now.

35. Cool! I never run into anybody who knew Cats In Boots.
They were my absolutely favorite band in that time period. I even talked my editor into letting me do a cover story on them for the magazine. Man, I loved that band. Unfortunately, they broke up too soon after that album came out. But hey, they WERE big in Japan. Actually, I heard they are regrouping to play in Japan (or release something there, I forget which).

32. Yeah, I really like the song "Gypsy Road" a lot...
...as a matter of fact, I stuck it on one of my mix CDs for the car recently and had forgotten just how much I DID like it...

...but, in all fairness, they've always been grouped in with the hair bands, and if you remember that commercial that was played to death around the clock a few years ago for that 80s hair bands CD...

"They taught us how to LIVE...they taught us how to LOVE..."

...right in the middle of Poison and Warrant and Winger and Damn Yankees was CINDERELLA, and their song "Don't Know What You've Got (till It's Gone)"...and while they did do some fine, hard, rockin' songs, they DID ALSO DO "Don't Know What You've Got (till It's Gone)"...a hair metal power ballad if there ever was one...but I like 'em anyway.
