Admit it: SarahBelle is a babe!
Sorry for being so self-aggrandizing here, but I lost a lot of weight a year ago (over 50 pounds). I worked very hard (still have to), yet can still often be kind of self-critical. This picture, however, floored me it was so good. :D

9. This is 3 years ago.
I will preface it by saying that I think a woman can be big and be attractive, but I put on a lot of weight largely having my children and for me, I didn't feel comfortable in my skin for some time. That's me though. If a bigger woman is happy with herself, more power to her because that's what matters most.

This perhaps illustrate my point just a little bit. (Takes some courage too I admit.)

I've been through too much in life to not know this and I'm actually grateful for some of the life lessons and challenges I've had (maybe I would have otherwise ended up a far more shallow person). Those of us who have had challenges in the area of weight know the many sides to the whole body image thing. As much I like to look nicely on the outside, when it comes to what I want to be loved for is what's on the inside. That's what I look for as well in someone else because it's what matters most of all. :)

30. The screen name comes from my dad.
It's what he used to call me when I was little and since he's the one that instilled within me the political values I hold, it was a tribute to him.
I used to have another name, but I wanted to utilize something that involved, to an extent, my real name as well.

32. I just wanted to say something else.
Edited on Sun Dec-05-04 10:42 PM by SarahBelle

No, I don't think external appearances are everything. If one has never dealt the issue of gaining weight and trying everything to find the right thing to get it off and nothing working for many years, they cannot possibly begin to understand how much better I feel on a physical and emotional level. It's not about my level of "hotness" (I have far deeper concerns in my life), but about regaining a self I lost in many ways a long time ago. A self that's not only on the outside, but on the inside as well and that's a far more important aspect of who I am than anything else.

Thanks. I just needed to say that. :)

I just got this vibe tonight and I really, really don't want to appear as some shallow doofus. It sort of started as a copycat thread that sort of allowed me to express a little bit of myself within what I wrote.

"but about regaining a self I lost in many ways a long time ago."

Except for me I've been overweight since childhood. So when the flab does come off it will be something I've not experienced before. And I know for a fact that I won't look anywhere near as gorgeous in nylons and heels as you do. :)

43. As a kid...
I was always in the average to slightly chubby category. Even now, I'm at the upper end for my healthy BMI range. I have had to come to terms with the fact I'm never going to be svelte or skinny because it's just not how I was made. Thankfully, there's still plenty of men out there who like women with curves (no matter what the media keeps throwing at us women that any of us over a size 4 are less than worthy).

36. You are *beautiful* inside and out, SB!
I also think that, as your life continues to transform for the better, that the extra pounds will be much easier to keep off.

It's quite possible that your life circumstances up to now have kept you in something of a low-level depression, and the calories really tend to "stick" in those situations.

As you start to feel better about yourself, then the better you look -- and that's a wonderful cycle to be "trapped" in!

37. You are very right about the life-circumstances part.
Years upon years in a bad marriage, lots of stress, and little help or personal fulfillment (in regard to my career and many things) lead me down a very unhappy path. It was only when I began admitting out loud (to myself and to others) just how unhappy I had been, did the body begin to completely follow the mind. I have had many epiphany moments in the last year of realizing that I was at a crossroads that basically was a choice between a simpler, yet unfulfilling path (with someone I was not happy with for many reasons- in part out of justifiable anger for his behavior and at some level simple personality clashes) for myself or one that's a little harder (for awhile) that is more along the lines of life and truth. It's scary sometimes, but I choose life and truth. It does mean something. :)

Your wife is Asian, right? Genetically, they just tend to be a smaller people it seems. I'm English and Swedish. Colder places. Even now at 140-something (and I'm active and eat rather sparsely), my body is freezing much of the time. My ancestry wants me big and insulated I think. :D

But, even other Chinese think my wife is thin.

She dropped about 10 pounds from her pre-pregnancy weight within a few months of giving birth and hasn't gained it back. And, the day after she gave birth, she was basically right at her pre pregnancy weight...
