Dish T.V. vs. high speed cable?
I have cable and though it works pretty well, I'm not too crazy about it being right-wing controlled.

So, in the mail comes an offer for Dish T.V. What is everybody's experience on the two?

Thanks.

2. We just got DishTV thru SBC and I love it! They carry a bunch of
Sirius Radio channels and it is heaven, plus we got TIVO with it. With the SBC deal we didn't have to pay a penny for installation.

3. I got Dish and love it
Got it many years ago and just upgraded. One plus for Dish is FreeSpeechTV (channel 9415). Great left-wing stuff, especially DemocracyNow with Amy Goodman. Real news. Plus lots of other good stuff. Have heard some great discussion on UCTV (Cal. university), plus other 'out there channels'. My son-in-law has high speed cable and doesn't get near the variety we do. Got like 15 HBOs & some other stuff for + local for $65/mo. Seems like a lot but my wife's disabled & loves her movies.

4. I Had DirecTV Until Rupert Murdoch Bought It
Edited on Mon Nov-29-04 06:02 PM by Sporadicus
I promptly switched to Dish Network and never looked back. I get more channels - including the Encore channels (not Starz, however) and The Movie Channel (two different channels) in my package for no additional cost. In addition, I got a digital video recorder (equivalent to TiVo) for free (I still have to pay $5 / month to use it). Plus, I get local broadcast channels free with the package I have.

5. ANOTHER QUESTION FOR EVERYONE:
What is everyone's experience with dish vs. cable during bad weather? Which one is more reliable, or are they the same?

6. I have direct TV but can answer....
I only lose the signal when there is an extreme thunderstorm (tornado weather), on a normal rainy day I am fine. I don't know about the effects of snow on it as I am in the south.

7. I have DISH and last night it was really windy
something happened but I just had to hit a few buttons and the satellite receiver reset itself.

When I had cable it could take hours to come back on if it went out.

I like Dish a lot.

8. Only the Most Severe Storms Affect It
I understand that it's the thickness of the cloud layer in the line of sight to the satellite that affects the signal - not the amount of precipitation that's falling. I recall cable getting knocked out frequently during storms - and repairs can sometimes take days
