Need help with pop ups

I have Norton with a pop up blocker, I have Microsoft Internet Explorer tool bar with pop ups blocked, but I still keep getting these annoying web pages that pop up while I'm surfing.

The are ads, usually for spy ware. I keep adding the addresses to my Restricted Sites in Internet Options but this is getting tiresome. Also, some manage to pop up even though I already restricted them.

This has just started happening in the last week or so. Are these some kind of new and improved ad pop up/spyware?

1. Don't know if this will help but...

I find that the Free Downloadable Yahoo Tool Bar has done a pretty good job at blocking pop-ups for me. Maybe you should try that.

I haven't had one single pop-up since I got it and its a kick ass browser to boot. I highly recommend it :)

3. You may have spyware infesting your computer

I'm hardly an expert but my advice is to do a search for Spybot Search and Destroy and Ad-Aware. Install and run them. After you clean out the crap, dump IE. Download and install Firefox. Like I said I'm no expert but Firefox is very easy install and use. It beats IE in pretty much every way.

As far as Spybot Search and Destroy and Ad-Aware goes. It does sound like a spyware problem if it just started recently.

pardon my ignorance, I'm not PC savvy.

And how did I get this? I thought I would be all set with Norton AntiVirus and it's spyware/adware blocker. :argh:

11. It's easy, here's how:

personally I use Spysweeper, I suggest all my non PC savvy customers :D because it's less technical. There's a trial version you can download on www.webroot.com. The reason why I suggest that is because Spybot Search and Destroy I've seen confuse too many people and you have to use it in conjunction with Ad-Aware cause I've seen that program actually miss some files. The prompts are pretty easy. Every program though has it's flaws. Spysweeper does too. (I'll explain) Once downloaded have scan the hard drive and It'll detect the spyware and adware. Select all the files, Note, here's the explination: Spysweeper pegs it's own updating file as spyware because it has spyware news which is the first screen, and that information is being sent over the net. It's proven not to be spyware though (PC Magazine). So uncheck anything that says SpySweeper in the list and then delete the other files. Then click on Quarentine, uncheck spysweeper and then Delete again. Then go to panicware.com and download the free version of Pop Up Stopper. It's been known to block 90% of the pop-ups with an allow option.

Now if you're getting the gray popups in the background that's another story. Hope this helps :hi:

15. I run Spy Sweeper myself

but I fucked up and Quarantined something that helped Flashget run and MMJB run. I restored the Spyware for the flash get, then forgot about the mmjb. I never cleared the Quarantine files-they're gone though. so my mmjb won't work. :(.

7. I use Mozilla, but I am trying Avant, which is pretty cool

and formatted like IE. you might feel more comfortable with it. you can try them both

Both will import favourites and passwords from your IE browser. Leave it on your computer, just don't use it anymore. It's holey, IMHO

Never turned back, very fairly get a pop up if any.
