Silly question...
Why would an all-powerful deity create a race of sentient beings with free will on a planet full of temptation and suffering, then demand their undying sycophancy?

Would that make him supremely insecure? An insufferable egomaniac?

What kind of supreme being is so insistent on the adoration and filial loyalty of billions of insignificant puny beings? I've never understood that...

1. ah
but the only onces claiming that the deity really does desire sycophancy themselves receive sycophancy from the people who adhere to their faith. so, an egomanical human places themselves in the position of Secretary Of God, and promises to forward all the money to the main office

4. If you read the Old Testament carefully...
...you will find reference to OTHER gods. Yes, people, OTHER gods. I find hope in this. The account of Jehovah shows him to be an Eric Cartman type personality. Its an interesting twist when the New Testament comes around. "God" apparently gets a lobotomy. He forgets about all other gods and becomes a nice guy. He slips up, though, and Lucifer slips through the cracks. Kind of an interesting change, huh?
