What are the worst things posted on the DU forum?
I personally think the anti-Christian posts are counter-productive.

6. Threads of intolerance for people's opinions and ideas
and refusing to acklowedge the validity of another's position, added in with hyper-sensitivity and knee-jerk reactionism.

Anti-Christian posts are no worse than pro-Christian posts. Or anything else. If someone is speaking their truth, then so be it.

Unless they are making hurtful, personal comments.

I'm a Christian, and I don't remember any anti-Christian thread that didn't make sense and didn't have some grain - or sometimes, an entire silo-full of grain - of truth in it.

There are no sacred cows.

once again, the christians, who hold almost every elected seat in the country, control our society and culture, and have churches every three blocks get upset when the occasional non-believer posts something on the internet contrary to their faith.

edit - I really don't understand how christians can complain so much when they control everything. Is ANY dissent unacceptable?

26. You won't find this Christian complaining about it
Although I know you aren't talking about me.

I call it the Christian as Victim Complex. It's really quite clever. Here's how it works:

Christians know damn well (and I am talking about Pharisee style, right wing Christians) they are a majority in this country.

But they think if they scream and yell and cry about how they are VICTIMS they will get their way even MORE.

Case in point: school prayer. Ok, there is NO law prohibiting a person's child from praying in school. NONE. Little Abdul can bust out a prayer mat and face east, little Heather can pray to God at lunch or before a test, whatever and as long as it doesn't disrupt the teaching going on (I would think Abdul's prayer mat might actually) they are PERFECTLY FREE TO DO SO.

I once argued about this with a born-again fundie. She kept claiming her kids weren't allowed to pray in school and I kept calling her on that bullshit, but she just ignored it. She knew damn well they are allowed to. But what the hell would she do without some way to claim victimization?

She also teaches a Sunday school class and they love to argue that they are COMMANDED to spread the word of God, so she teaches three year olds how to proselytize to STRANGERS! Yep. She also walks up to people and tells them what Jesus has done to her and tries to witness to them and talk them into conversion.

I told her that's the fastest way to turn people OFF and that people like her (who was also homophobic) were the #1 reason I no longer attend church.

Sorry, this turned into a rant. But I, for one, agree with you. It's like the republicans. They freaking control EVERYTHING but they sound like the biggest bunch of fucking crybabies I've ever heard.

Oh I also told that woman she would NOT like living in a strict, literalist Christian theocracy. See, she's been divorced and her oldest child was conceived out of wedlock. She'd be stoned to death.

The conversation ended there.

15. Intolerance for people who disagree with the group think around here
Edited on Fri Nov-12-04 03:13 PM by Zuni
Face it---if someone disagrees with the general orthodoxy around here, the DU post police gang up like a bunch of vultures and destroy you.
I used to post some controversial opinions (controversial because they aren't shared by the majority here) and thoughts, I have been insulted, flamed, ass-raped and worse. I never do anymore. It is not worth the stress of being attacked by people who do not even know you.

DU suffers from group think in the same way FR does, only the people here are generally smarter---but if you say something wrong or have an opinion contrary to the majority at DU---they can be as intolerant as Freepers.

They probably don't have a point of view and they can't string two sentences together. They choose to harass others and they have found a couple of others that are just like they are. There is a huge possibility that they don't know what the word ignore means.

'not the 'DU approved' position on Kerry' opinions. They could string two words together, and they were memes. They have built their posts on parroting the party line. Until they learn how to think critically and construct an argument based on knowledge and personal experience, I won't have anything to do with that. If I wanted to argue the meme, I'd find the originator. I'll argue with the organ grinder, but the monkey can fuck off.

In the lounge, since it's mostly vanity stuff, kittens puppies flirting and the like, it's all good. If I don't like it, I can hide it. like the sports threads.

54. "Immaturity causes hate"
Someone who carries hate inside of them for years for one reason or another has some type of obsessive behaviors that need to be addressed.

Republicans hate people outside of their realm. Democrats are suppose to accept others but it's that 1% that carry it on with them that is going to divide our party and it shouldn't be that way. If they have differing opinions that's fine but why get others to join in and attack the members that they don't like or don't agree with. That is where the immaturity factor comes in. We have an ignore feature and it should be used but they don't use it and you see it from a handful and it's the same people all of the time.

All I can say is that they need to grow up or address their issues that they have with life in general.

55. The worst?
Well, I must say right now the "I'd like to see the entire south get nuked" threads are starting to get real old. Stigmatizing an entire region doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

The "Christian as victim" threads are pretty obnoxious too. When Christians start suffering from hate crimes, being dragged to death behind pickup trucks, beaten and left to die while tied to a fence post or getting laws passed to prevent them from having the same freedoms everyone else has, then I might consider them persecuted. Right now, though, I think they have it pretty darn good.

Oh and then there are the "We need to compromise on abortion" threads. They're quite irritating too.

That's my 2 cents.

56. I agree on all three.
Complaining about the red states and putting down the south just plays right in to the freepers hands. We act like we think a red state voted straight Republican, rather than having a 53% / 47% split (percentages grabbed out of the air).

I won't comment on the other two, but I wholeheartedly agree.
