Chemistry between 2 people
What the heck is it? Did you ever meet someone and the initail attraction almost knocked you off your feet? What the heck is that all about? Is it just chemical or is there more to it?

Just some late night ponderings.

1. Oh yes
I was assigned a partner for this organic chem project, and when we met out of class, *BAM* I felt like I took a hit of pure O2.
He's infected my mind! :o

2. Yes.
Strangely it seems that those people with whom there was an instant attraction never developed into more than a physical quickie.

That may have more to do with my deficiencies than anything else though.

the words "just chemical" imply enormous potentialities in a nearly infinite variety of relationships to the known universe.

And, yes I do know that kind of reactions, absolutely, literally, physically staggering, though . . .

The physical closeness did not have a psychological corelate.

of complimentary physical events that result in more energy. We're talking everything from mixes at the synaptic level all of the way up through neural meta-structures, to organ systems and large muscle groups, even hair folicles.

I knew a guy once, who sometimes when he happened to put the palm of his hand on the top of my head, and our feet also were touching, my scalp would tingle and I could feel every single hair on my head bend and flex under the weight of his touch, and he could feel the tingling in his hand.

One day I was sad and could not laugh and then when I met them , I was DANCING AGAIN , LAUGHING and just happy :) He is the guy that I dreamed of - he is human and accepts me for him I am , and I him . He is being sent to Iraq in Februaury , so my feelings are like " ohmigosh at the moment " - but the feeling is real . We both have talked about it :) Taking it slow , the only way to go .

That's kinda what I thought. Ah well I guess some things are meant to be felt not understood.

20. of course nobody understands yet
we are still in the infancy of the age of science. As has been pointed out above, the myriad chemical/electrical reactions in the brain are still far more complex than we can understand today.

But some day, if we survive long enough as a species, we'll have much more insight into it.

9. A number of things actually...
We are each of us imbued with a kind of 'genetic mapping system' whereby we observe and extrapolate a potential partner's genetic makeup and disposition.

Using a number of apparatus, we determine that a number of genetic advantages we are deficient in are abundant in the subject.
Scent tells us if their immunological advantages compliment our own.
Sight tells us whether they have the physical traits we desire in offspring.
Conversation then indicates that we have certain notions in common which is a desirable trait for a lifelong partner.

But there is more...

11. You see... humans are far more complicated though...
We have more than a mere 'genetic mapping apparatus';

We have a 'superconscious extrapolation apparatus'.

This is to say that sometimes you're damn well meant to meet someone... no, not sometimes, 'always'.

So get to it!

13. OH excellent response
But I was talking about the kind of *chemistry* that happens when you see someone for the first time and as soon as your eyes meet it's *BAM* and you feel like you've been hit by a ton of bricks. I've had this happen - only once - and I still don't understand it. Any thoughts?

Some people might call this love at first sight - but I don't - it's more *animal* than that. It's like a completely physical connection.

Am I explaining this right?

guy would walk into the room, I would break out in a sweat, feel short of breath, and suddenly very aware of my breasts. Same guy as I mentioned above.
