Albums you are embarrassed to still own?
I worked at a record store for a number of years, so I had me some doozies.

The worst, but for some reason I cannot let go of it, is After Dark by Fabio. Yes, *that* Fabio.

From "Fabio on Films":

"I lahk to take a special lady to de cinema, where we can hold hands in the dark, and whisper very quietly about what we see. I wonder, would she kiss me like that? Will I always be the hero of her life? I wish there were more romantic films, because romantic films can lead to beautiful adventures ahfter we leef de theatre.

Has any woman, anywhere, ever claimed to have had a romantic relationship with this Fabio person?

I'm just saying...

3. Oh geez, thanks for reminding me
of some of the albums I have from the 70's when I was young and dumb! Let's see, there's the Helen Reddy's Greatest Hits Album, Disco Duck and other great Dance Hits, ('Nuff said!), and.......uh, never mind, I think I've embarrassed myself enough for now! What's really embarrassing is that I actually still like the Helen Reddy album (shhh, you didn't hear me say that)!

I haven't thought of him in years! Considering I was head over heels, totally, completely, absolutely in love with him to the point of obsession when I was twelve and thirteen, I suppose I oughta be ashamed of myself. I remember when I saw him in concert in 1977 when I was twelve, my ears are still ringing from the sound of 50,000 teenybopper girls screaming and carrying on.

37. Grand Funk Railroad and Uriah Heep
Too bad Mark Farner went over to the dark side along with Ted Nugent, Alice Cooper, and Gene Simmons. GFR seemed pretty left-wing in the early 1970s.

As for Uriah Heep, still fun to listen to sometimes in a juvenile sort of way. Lyrics and album cover art seem to have been done by junior high students who just discovered JRR Tolkien and/or LSD.

Edited on Tue Nov-09-04 11:16 PM by no name no slogan
Definately one of those "we phoned it in" albums. Everything about this one SUCKS-- the "songs", the cover photo (featuring three sunburned Limeys in white disco suits in Palm Beach). Nothing at all of interest for even the die-hard fan. Just more crap attempts to be "current" in 1978.

At this point, it was all over but the shouting. They broke up one disasterous money-losing world tour later.

Let's just make it easy...

I think much of today's mainstream country is in the neo-traditional vein, and some of the stuff that isn't, like Shania, is entertaining. I'm also proud of owning albums by younger, recent pop/rockers.

I got rid of many of my real clunkers.

Still have that B*Witched album Awake And Breathe that is bad for all but kids. And have a couple New Kids On The Block holdovers.

Obviously I'm not talking about Rob and Fab, but ten years earlier, such a scandal couldn't have happened, simply because there was no real music video presence at the time.

71. They know who sang but they don't want to reward the producers by
giving ANYONE related to the scandal a trophy.

I still have my MV CD.

I bought it (way back when) because I liked the music NOT because of whose picture was on the insert. So, just because the producers created a fake group doesn't mean the music suddenly turned bad.

It's simple, ear candy. No it won't change the world or rank among the world's best but it is fun to listen to nonetheless.

And if anyone bought their CD (or anyone else's) because of the "image" sold by the record company then they shouldn't be buying music in the first place. They should just put a logo on their forehead and move on.

I'll take them, then. :-) He may be a Repuke, but he's very talented.

55. We might be able to arrange a swap.
I just don't play them any more.
But I will cop to singing along when I hear them on the radio.

68. So many, but I guess I'll go with the Top Gun soundtrack.
And I occasionally still listen to it, too, which is the really embarassing part. Berlin AND Kenny Loggins? Ooh!!

69. My friends and I have a "Worst album/CD" contest on all road trips
The contest rules are as follows: 1) The CD/Album has to be something you seriously intended to listen to. 2) It has to be at least 10 years old, and lastly 3) Can only be used today for hand-to-hand combat.

The loser(s) have to pay the gas on the road trip. Here are the past three worst CD's:

"Feels So Good" by Chuck Mangione
"Oooh a la baba" by Jordi
"Kenny G Live" By Kenny G

83. Mr. Spock's Music from Outer Space
from Leonard Nimoy. Actually, I have all the Leonard Nimoy "masterpieces". Mr. Spock was one of my childhood heroes, and when he made the ghastly mistake of making records, my family made the equally ghastly mistake of buying them for me.

87. Gawd, I must be old!
Because all the embarrassing albums I owned are now considered cool by a new generation.

Like the Monkees. I owned 'em all until they broke up (the first time, Children). People love 'em now.

Or some real schlock by Elton John, who I was obssessed with for a long time. "Rock of the Westies" with this pretty racist song called "Island Girl" (I guess Jamaica Jerk-off on Goodbye Yellowbrick Road didn't go far enough.)It still surprises me Elton's still playing today, although he's lost his rock 'n roll mojo. Amazing piano player, tho.

I also figured one of my worst mistakes was buying "The Knack" with "My Sharona". Also now considered cool.

Most recent mistake was "Nickleback". Some of that stuff is okay, but that one sexist piece of shit song brings down the whole collection.

92. Ahem......
The soundtrack to A Star is Born, the Barbra Streisand-Kris Kristofferson version. Actually, a pretty decent album but try explaining that to anyone who sees it in your collection!
