I chose Hekate for a lot of reasons and will probably stick with her regardless.

On the DU side of things, of course it has to do with feeling like hell, feeling like we're in one of the hells, wanting to snarl at members of BushCo "See you at the crossroads of Hell, buddy," and I'm sure your imaginations can fill in the rest. That has not changed.

Beyond that, Hekate holds a respected place as the third of Demeter's Triad of Maiden, Mother, Crone. I've been working with the Demeter/Persephone myth of mother/daughter loss for years; I've moved beyond Mother so it's time to embrace the next part. Hekate has an underworld aspect but is the only one of the immortals who can travel from Olympus to Earth to the Underworld and back again; she's where three ways meet in both Earth and the Underworld (decision); and she's a midwife.

When I first came to DU as Hekate, MaRadix hailed me as "Queen of Wisdom." Ha -- thanks -- I can only hope!

Yesterday morning I became a grandmother when my daughter gave birth, and as it happened, MaRadix was the spiritual midwife. The beautiful boy we welcome is named Orion. Thinking of him now, I smile and remember to not give in to despair -- we have a lot of work to do...
