Anyone still keep in touch with their college/university instructors/Profs
I keep in touch with one. I just got an email reply from him. He's a cool guy, got me into radio and spent alot of extra time with me whenever I needed it. IN return I archived his entire radio collection and uploaded it onto computer.

He's a neat guy and I've always made a point of keeping in touch, we even had a half hour phone conversation once. Every year he says he's retiring, but it never happens.

How about you?

1. Undergrad no, graduate, yes
I detested my undergraduate years and I don't go out my way to look up professors from that time. Haven't set foot on that campus in decades, and have no intent on returning.

Graduate school, yeah, this is a much better situation. Being a working professional now, I am dealing with most profs as peers (some are co-workers) and it's been a more positive experience.

3. A couple, my English comp profs who always encouraged my writing
and who supported me hugely when I was first in college.
One even told me recently that she always put my papers on the bottom of the pile, because she said it gave her incentive to read the rest of them! I got teary-eyed when she told me that - made me feel really good!

9. That's a great compliment.
I do that, too. But I rarely tell any student.
I don't want the others to get too bummed.
Eventually, I write a little note on the last paper... with a big THANK YOU.

You're lucky to have had such a nice professor.

12. She just told me that about a week ago, and it's been 25 years since I had
her for a prof!
Glad she DIDN'T tell me when I was her student - might have made me think I didn't have to work as hard.

5. I actually just got back in touch with one of my faves
and then I went to see him at his new university nearby, just to chat for old time's sake. He was one of my mentors.

6. I've thought about sending them all a letter, admitting...
...they were right about politics and I was wrong, that they were right about war and I was wrong.

I was a bullheaded right-winger. I was raised that way. Now I look at the attitudes I had as a right-wing religious nut and I am ashamed. I hope those I hurt can forgive me.

10. Write to some of them and talk about how your views have changed
No need to apologize for your views (unless you were rude or something), but do write and tell them how your thinking has evolved. They would be glad to hear from you. My dad was a professor and letters from former students meant a lot to him.

I had planned to get back in touch with one of my favorite professors from college when he died unexpectedly. Life is short and unpredictable. Write today.

13. I feel a bit strange because there's no way I've lived up to their...
...expectations. I was valedictorian with a 4.0 GPA and now I'm a disabled woman who can't make ends meet on her own. One prof went totally fundy on me, so he's out. But I'd like to talk to a few of the ones who were so very, very patient with me.

They put up with so many RW talking points and managed not to blow up in my face. The other students were polite, as well. I thought I knew everything...sigh.

7. I see a lot of them often
at conventions and workshops. I keep in touch with about four or five. I have come to respect and admire all of them for many different reasons. I also value their opinions, which I ask for from time to time.

8. Yes. And no, but I've been meaning to write.
One of my professors and I write back and forth every few years. He's great and he wanted me to go on, and I did. I hope he's proud.

The one I totally idolized -- I need to write to him. But every time I start, I freak out. He is wonderful and writes, so I judge every word I put on paper and then... I don't get it done. But he really changed my life and I want to tell him -- thank him!

I love it when students write to me. I recently received a letter and it made me cry.

So, if you haven't written to your teacher/prof/mentor.... DO IT!

14. Yes. One of my closest friends was my professor/advisor at college...
And that was longer ago than I care to mention! He was a Professor of Art at Cal State University Northridge, and he's still kicking high. He and I shoot the shit at least once a month or so on the phone, and visit a couple of times a year. He is funny as hell and has some beautifully skewed perceptions.

Check out his very cool art at his Web site:
