Yesterday, I had a very, very bad day. I know someone posted how they were fired....I had a similar situation where I was placed on "investigative leave" at work and escorted out of my building. Not to go into too many details, but just a few short weeks ago a similar situation came up with another employee but they did not place that person on "leave," so it's not only obvious they are treating much differently than other employees, but they are trying to get rid of me.
The cherry-topper came yesterday when I found out I was turned down for another job I interviewed for last Friday. I found out around the same time Kerry was down 112 and the Chimp was up 197. Thank goodness I wasn't at all suicidal. But right before deciding that I was through with yesterday, I checked the poles one last time. To my surprise, Kerry seemed to be gaining with 188 to the Chimp's 197, so I had a sliver of hope...
So before turning on the television or even listening to Air America on the Internet, I came to DU to learn the fate of our country for the next four years. DU has been my political salvation for the past year....it's here that I find like-minded people who share the same political values and interests, and unfortunately, the same outrage and disgust over the direction the current "administration" is leading the United States. It's hard to find the same kind of camaraderie in my everyday life.
And given all that happened to me yesterday, I am not all that surprised to learn the Chimp will remain in office. We all knew deep down inside that this was a strong possibility whether it would be the result of dirty elections or because less spiritually evolved human beings supported another Bush presidency, or any combination of the two plus whatever.
However, I am surprised by how I feel, about the election and about my life in general. I cannot give up or give in.
I am a Progressive and I am a Democrat. I do not claim our party has all the answers. But what we do have in our hearts is the interest in the welfare of ALL the people in mind. If we give up or give in to the likes of this Administration, we are not better than they are. We cannot claim to be real Americans unless we go down fighting for what we believe is right.
I know I'm waxing poetic and perhaps sound a bit corny, but this is truly how I feel. I'm sure I am among those who feel the same. I will not give up on this country nor will I give up fighting for what I believe in no matter how many Chimps are elected into office. Thank you for taking time to read this.
