I never heard of a "freeper" until I came here. I just Googled the word and the first definition I found was from

Right-wing political activist. So-called, because it is the nickname of the denizens of the ultra-right wing Web site FreeRepublic.com. Similar to "ditto-head."

most people don't know what I'm talkng about when I mention freepers and wingnuts.

Of course, they can pick it up by inference. Unlike freepers, most people get it from the context.
