Inmate Wants More Jail Time for Cooking Course
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA-October 19, 2004 — Most inmates can't wait to get out of a stir. But not David Byers.

He's dying to stay in a Virginia regional jail. He requested an extended sentence so he could finish a cooking course.

His fellow inmates think he's nuts. And a jail doctor jokingly asked Byers if he wanted to see a shrink. Byers was allowed stay past his October fifth release date and was able to graduate with the rest of the inmate cooking class.

He says the course was important to him and he's looking forward to putting his new culinary skills to work on the outside.

1. Sounds good to me...
although I think he may be hoping that scrub will have been beaten by the time he gets out of jail and will be able to find a good job.

2. Good for him.
If he can keep himself safe in there and wants to be a positive member of society, then great.
