I have a broken tooth trying to fall out
No matter how much I push it around with my tongue, it bends all the way this way, and all the way that way, but won't come out.

I suppose I should just grab some pliers and yank it.

Between three broken teeth, constant right ankle pain and chest pains most mornings, my physical deterioration is proceeding quite nicely, I think.

I wish I could care, but I don't. Sooner the better, as far as I'm concerned.

2. Ouch Bigbear
I feel bad for you. Why don't you buy some ambisol and put that on your gums so that the pain will go away. I had my wisdom teeth pulled last year and it was painful.

3. Are you still getting grief counseling?
I am, and it's helping me somewhat.

As for the tooth, you need to see a dentist.

Please take care of yourself. You have a lot of friends here who care about you a lot.

4. She's billing hours, that's all
She has nothing to say to me, except "It sounds like you really loved her", or "You were very close, weren't you." Shit like that. 10 weeks of that, maybe more. I told her last Tuesday to stop talking to me in this careful, faux-reverential near whisper. It sounds patronizing and I hate it.

I'd fire her, but it gets me out of the office one afternoon a week.

I'm glad yours is helping. I couldn't imagine (even me) what your summer's been like.

I keep it together just enough to keep my day job, but just barely. Even my editor is cutting back on my weekly columns.

I feel like I'm circling the drain.

5. You need a new, better counselor
Seriously. What about a group situation - are you comfortable doing that?

I'm worried about you, my friend.

7. I tried that in July
Goddamned freak show. Simpering platitudes from Hospice ladies, talking about how "our culture doesn't support grief very well" and "the grieving process" - I managed to piss everyone off, they had to "talk" to me after the first session. It was only four sessions, I managed to go the distance, but everyone stayed away from me.

I actually called Hospice earlier this week about their 10-week program - girl spent 5 minutes on the phone with me and cautiously observed, "I don't think it's the right situation for you."

My reputation precedes me with these people, I reckon.

Don't worry about me, fy. Take care of you.

6. Hang in there, Bear.
I doubt that Mrs. BigBigBear would want you circling the drain.

You WILL get through this. I know it. There is no reason why you should trust that I know this, but I do. You will get through this because it will honor her memory to do so.

And because we need you. All of us.

9. Bear - Ten weeks
You're still raw and hurting. It's not easy and it will take time. Try to be kinder to yourself - you wouldn't be normal if you weren't still hurting this soon after your loss.

12. It's been longer than that since Karin's been gone
18 weeks, I think, something like that. I started seeing this lady in...early July, I think.

I can't remember - June and July are all a blur to me.

10. Don't yank it, BigBigBear...
You need to see a dentist, a doctor, and you really need a new counselor. But you don't really need me to tell you this, do you?

I think, deep down, you do care about your health, or else you wouldn't be posting this here. Or maybe you don't wish to care right now, so you're seeking those who do.

I care, BigBigBear; and I think you know we all do.

13. I suppose you're right
Edited on Sat Oct-16-04 12:29 AM by BigBigBear
I've devolved into a sympathy sponge.

I've had it with doctors - the tooth will come out soon (maybe during dinner). I just hope I don't swallow it.

Anyway - enough about me.

I really like your anteater, by the way.

14. The whole pliers - tooth yanking thing
is greatly overrated.

Find some dental school -- they'll do it cheap -- like $75 here. And sometimes they have weekend emergency service available.

If you screw up with the pliers you might break other teeth. -- Adult teeth have substantial roots.

My buddy just lets them fall out. I use a mixed approach myself. The more that I can eke out of them, the better, I figure.

But it isn't much good for chewing, I imagine.

The up side of falling apart is that it makes the next step a lot more palatable.

Buck up -- time heals all wounds... or at least makes the pain more bearable. And "survival" is the iron rule of the species.

Best.

16. He saved himself from getting brain damage
by yanking it? Or caused the infection himself?

Inquiring minds want to know.

19. Well, I've leave it then
Checking out is one thing, but it's rather undignified to go with a burbling head full of pus, isn't it?

22. I know how much it's been bothering everyone
So here's an update: It finally came out this afternoon, with the assistance of a piece of almost-warm pizza.

It was lovely - basically graphite colored. Looked like a driveway pebble.

Burgers for dinner tonight.
