I didn't WANT a DVD player. One has been foisted upon us.
Stepdaughter's grandma gave her one, and she brought it home with the widest smile you ever saw on an 8yo's face.

Now I have to perform all kinds of wiring smogasbord because our living room TV is 8 years old (and working like a charm). That means, no A/V RCA jacks in the back. Will probably have to bring the stereo into the fray, too. Gaaaak.

I'm NOT buying a new TV because of the DVD player.

Grumble, grumble.

1. You can buy an adaptor
also sometimes your VCR has RCA jacks that the DVD can plug into, which then goes through the coaxial to your TV.

4. VCR's busted (I think)
It goes blue-screen at about 5-second intervals, and then back again. Happens with tapes and also when the DVD goes through it.

I guess I'll buy an adapter. And a longer audio cable too. But wait a sec... it plays MP3 CDs too! </grumpy> Maybe I'll like it after all!

Could I do something like this? Probably has some impedance caveat at the audio splitting...

Do these adapters have an additional "antenna in" jack?

8. make sure the in plugs go in;
I'm a VCR-quality nut, so I got a Sharp to replace a mildly streaky Sony (the Sharp sucked eggs and was returned). Some time later, we tried to play a DVD, but all we got was a super-faint image against blue; the cables from the DVD player were plugged into the VCR's out box, and only faint feedback could get through the VCR and into the coaxial going to the TV.
Don't know if that helps, just sharing.

3. And I thought I was the only person who didn't have one
Well, maybe I am now! I've been waiting on it because I'd just as soon get a Playstation 2 so I'd have both the gaming and the DVD capacity. But bills keep getting in the way and I can't justify spending the money. I do need to though - so many films are being released in only the DVD format. I've wanted to see "The Hunting of the President" but can only find it in DVD.

5. I don't have one either technically
At least not a standalone unit, but then I don't have a standalone TV or CD player or stereo either. When I budgeted to build my new computer earlier this year I made sure multimedia was a priority.

The odd thing is I never use the DVD or CD playing capabilities. 99% of everything I watch or listen to I download.

It's not worth the bother to go surround a go go--- trust me i have installed this junk for years if you do , then you have to decide on what d.v.d to watch just read and listen to music thats what
a home entertainment center should be. or buy a few adapters, freak out trying to figure it out, wish you had hi def then go read a book and listen to music............

9. You could say the DVDs won't play south of the Equator...
...because of the direction of rotation. Maybe that'll get you off the hook.

"Aye! This is a Clockwise Rotation DVD player, and we only have Counterclockwise Roation DVDs!"
