1. Sirius has 2 liberal stations
along with 100% of AAR..

HOWEVER it sucks on the weekend because all the talk stations (including AAR) are pre-empted for football games

5. I have Sirius
And I love it.
I have the audiovox PRP2 model
I can have it in my car, connect it to my stereo and also have a boombox that I can carry around with me when I go on vacation
AAR is carried in it's full format, not disected like xm. Also if you want there are great programs on Radio Left.
Good luck and welcome to Sirius

3. As an XM radio fan...
I love my XM radio, particularly Lucy (alternative rock classics such as REM, Pearl Jam, etc.), Fine Tuning (a bit of everything from all genres) and, of course, America Left (which is the XM version of AAR).

To each his/her own!

4. Because I know it's coming...CLEAR CHANNEL DOES NOT OWN XM.
By own, I mean "have a controlling interest in" (darn these short Subject lines). They own less than 2%. As you were.

7. That burns me up too.
Actually, my basis for leaving XM when my term is up is the rights to NFL, as well as Stern and AAR. I don't give a crap who owns it, as long as the programming's good.

9. They had 9% last I heard
This is 1999, so things have changed, but I've not heard of any major sell-offs other than Motient turning over their shares to Hughes Electronics when they (Motient) went out of business.

Ownership Information:
Apollo Group Holdings 9.1%
Motient Corp. 5.8%
Clear Channel 8.5%
DIRECTV 6.6%
GM 5.6%
Madison Dearborn 5.2%
Columbia Capital 3.8%
Baron Capital 3.8%
AEA Investors 2.8%
Telcom Ventures 2.6%
Honda Motor Corp. 2.3%
Employees and Directors 4.5%
Public Investors 40%

6. I have SIRIUS, my son-in-law has XM
Edited on Fri Oct-08-04 12:53 PM by DrDan
a lot of overlap, but

I am a football fan and get better coverage on SIRIUS - from both a home and away broadcast

He likes NASCAR and gets that coverage on XM

I get Air America - I work at home and have it on for 6-8 hours per day

I get two NPR stations on SIRIUS - I don't believe he gets NPR on XM

there is a lot of overlap after that

(Howard Stern coming to SIRIUS in 2006 - if that makes a difference. XM has Bob Edwards whom I would prefer)

*****

oh yeah

XM is a bit cheaper (maybe 2 bucks a month)

SIRIUS audiovox has a boombox option which is really nice - makes SIRIUS portable for carrying it to the garage, the pool, camping etc (without running down a car battery)

So I'm going with Sirius, though I have neither.

11. I have XM, but next car will be Sirius
Sirius offers Air America uncut (as well as a 2nd progressive talk channel, has music selections that are more to my liking, has NPR, and also has OutQ, a gay/lesbian talk-entertainment channel.

12. Sirius for me . . .
I'm going to be upgrading my receiver soon if anyone is interested in buying a slightly older model Sirius tuner at a discount :) Only reason I'm switching is for size purposes, I want a smaller tuner, functionally this one is perfect.
