...Dub artist that is touched with genius - nothing is brighter and more brilliant than what he produced during the Black Ark years.

5. Some of my favorite 'dub' albums actually have few lyrics
One dub album that I can listen to over and over again is Aswad's 'A New Chapter of Dub'. It is almost all instrumental, however. The horn line on 'Tuffist' is a major earworm. Another is Black Uhuru's 'Dub Factor'.

Neither are 'dance hall style' -- more like 'reverb heaven'.

just did a quick web search and he seems quite interesting...

You might want to check out Ernest Ranglin then, it's an interesting mix of jazz/reggae/"ethnic" music and so on...

DUde, I had to come back here - I'm getting slammed in a "real" conversation - they're taking me seriously (I hate when that happens) and it's on an issue where I sound a bit conservative!

Seriously - listen to Sandinista - it's got some great Jamaican Dub

see above posts - I am not the only one who thinks so (and, I don't count Guns of Brixton - that is a silly song which I believe appears everywhere in order to give Paul some royalties!

25. It's still rock music, that's what I'm getting at.
You can get all the dub musicians you like but you're still just grafting it on to a white-boy rock chassis.

Why do you think they call it "rockers"?

& Perry and Marley didn't seem too worried about it, they co-wrote a song called Punky Reggae Party after all.

43. The Clash's cover of "Police and Thieves" is not very good...
in my opinion. Of course, I'm not a particularly big fan of the Clash myself (just sick and tired of hearing them get labeled, "the best punk band ever!!!") but I can appreciate some of their tunes, and can understand that hey had some influence. But that cover of "police and thieves" just irritates me.

Listen to the original by Junior Murvin and be amazed...

*oh yeah and the reason "Scratch" is crdited with writing duties on Police and Thieves is cause he did write it, but not for the Clash...

44. I don't think they were the best punk band ever. They were
wonderfully political, but in some respects, I think Joe was a beat poet who put his lyrics to some punk riffs.

I never thought Police and Thieves as anything but a cover tune. I find it humorous because on the CD, you can really hear Joe punching out the "t" in streeTah which is not something that is heard on vinyl. I have to laugh every time I hear it. You also hear that hard enunciation on "Career Opportunities."

BTW: Police and Thieves isn't nearly as irritating as "Lost in the Supermarket."

Chavez: Your thread has been officially high jacked.
