So I went to the shelter today
I saw a black cat that was SO sweet, wanted to bat my arm, but unfortunately I was only visiting because I couldn't take a cat/dog home with me due to my wife who doesn't like animals of any kind. That cat was maybe a year old, very adoptable and sweet. Also, I saw a calico that loved to nuzzle me.

On the dog section, plenty of puppies (look like border collie mix) and a very friendly and likeable German shepard that would give me doggy kisses from his cage. I spent time with him petting him.

Also, there was another Shepard mix that was sitting on the adoptable section, but when I tried to pet him, he growled and barked at me, showing his teeth. Makes me wonder if that dog needs to be re-evaluated. On his adopt notes the shelter said he's mild-mannered.

3. We got our first pet 2 1/2 years ago
Neither of us has been around dogs since childhood and we're as old as dirt. My friend has 5 American Eskimo dogs. She kept telling me I should get one. We were in the pet store, and I fell head over heels in love with my Princess!! Husband wasn't too keen on my getting her, but he LOVES this beautiful, intelligent pup! She has given us so much pleasure. I never knew what it meant when people said their pets were like family members. Now, I know. We both love her so much.

2. Only visiting?
Nah, you made a big difference to the animals you stopped to give attention to. If you can't have an animal in your house, maybe you could consider volunteering at the shelter.

About that Shepherd, the shelter can be a really scary place for those animals, and he might've been reacting badly. Besides, you don't know what he's just been through (shots, bath, surgery, etc).

The shelter (or rescue) is the ONLY place to get an animal.

4. That is such a kind thing you did!
I simply can't do it. I have so many pets and I love them all, some came from the shelter and I still have so much love to give others but I just can't go to the shelter, it breaks my heart. You are a very kind and wonderful person to go and give those critters some love, they sure need it. I have a lot of respect for people like you who can do that.
