I don't really care for Kevin Smith films. I prefer Woody.

3. Kevin Smith is the film voice for our genteration.
I detest Woody, he is a disgusting ego maniac and he hasn't made a good movie in years. All of his more recent movies seem like a ploy for Woody to curl up with a starlet. It's gross.

Smith has more heart in his little pinky, he cares about his characters and respects the intelligence of the audience. Woody's last remotely watchable movie was Mighty Aphrodite.

7. I disagree
I find Smith's characters to be a bit narcissistic. They are the "cool guys" poking fun at everyone. I prefer some humility, some self-deprecating.

8. Have you seen Mallrats?
Those guys are NOT the cool kids. Not even close.

Neither are the guys in clerks. Okay, maybe Randall, but still...

2. You can't compare the two: Woody is far superior
Woody has a vast body of work that contains movies of pure genius: Crimes & Misdemeanors, Husbands & Wives, Annie Hall, Manhattan, to name a few. Smith's body of work contains two good movies, Clerks and Chasing Amy. The others, especially Dogma, are pure dreck. I can't understand why people think he's so great.

4. Kevin is better looking, though
so if we're deciding based on appearance, I change my vote.

5. I voted for Kevin ....
only because I think he's a good filmmaker who could be a great filmmaker. He really needs to work on his writing in terms of plotlines. He's great at dialogue and character development, but he stinks at story structure, especially in the third act. His movies don't end as much as they hit 2 hours and stop.

Woody Allen MADE some great films, but he is way past his prime and I still think he's a pathetic old perv.

Given the choice to see the latest Kevin Smith film vs. the latest Woody Allen film, it's not contest. I'll go see Kevin's.

6. Woody's a sickie
Can't vote for an incestuous perv, sorry. Besides, Kevin Smith rules, and Allen hasn't made a good movie for the better part of 15 years. Even before that, his stuff's pretty questionable, depending on your tastes. Of course, the same could be said even more so of Smith, but my personal preferences ru8n in that direction.

10. It's not incest if it's your stepdaughter
Have you seen Love & Death? Or Manhattan? At the very least, he used to be a comedic genius. And we all know that sometimes very very talented people just won't settle for Mia Farrow

15. I can't watch Woody Allen movies anymore
I used to like his work, but I am sickened whenever I see him, now. It may not be technically incest, his involvement with his stepdaughter, and as she was of age when it was discovered, it's not criminal, but it is perverse, sick and exploitative.

He's a scumbag pedophile.

9. Please, people, can we vote on movies only?
Edited on Tue Sep-28-04 12:51 PM by redqueen
I know it's tempting to judge Woody's sexual exploits instead of his work, but let's try to keep it above board. If you just hate his movies and love Kevin's, fine.

We don't know what skeletons may be lurking in Kevin's closet, so let's not pretend we're qualified to judge these guys on character.
