Weight Loss Check-in - Sliding into Maintenance
Had my yearly physical this past week. I've managed to lose another 11 pounds since June 13, bringing my grand total of weight surrendered (since January 4) thus far to 103 pounds!!! I'm about 12 pounds from my target weight, which means I'll be beginning the maintenance food plan very soon.

It's been an interesting journey. I'm an entirely different person in more ways than one. Even four months ago, I would have said my writing is the most precious thing to me, after my sobriety. But now, my abstinence, my sobriety and also my budding financial sanity are the most prized aspects of my life. I love to make my abstinent meals! I've discovered the joys of vegetables and "plain" grains such as oats and millet. Squash--what a revelation, esp. kobucha (kabucha? How's it spelled, anyone know?) Yumzels!

A side benefit is that I've been largely bypassing purchases from corpseorations, except for my Quaker Oat Bran, sugar-free gum and my diet sodas and artificial sweeteners. I'm going to start scoping out the farmer's markets pretty seriously in the future esp. for free-range chicken and the produce. Kewlness!

2. Congratulations!
I haven't seen any of your other posts, so I don't know your story. I would be interested to hear! Which life-change diet are you on? It sounds like you have made major changes in your life.

3. Congrats!
That's quite an achievement. I also would like to know how you are doing it. I've lost 30 lbs on Weight Watchers and have 30 to go -- I like to see how other folks are getting rid of their fat.

7. Congratulations
good job, its funny how we think things are too daunting (like giving up need less foods) until we actually start doing them.

8. I'm in a 12-step program
called CEA-HOW. (Compulsive Eaters Anonymous-Honest Open-minded & Willing) I call my food into my sponsor every day, and I have to write out the answer to a question he gave me for the past 30 days. Once I got to 30 days I got a book of questions to answer, which takes people anywhere from 3 months to a year, depending on time etc. It's not an easy program to follow, but I had enough friends in AA who've been through the mill with food also, who strongly suggested I try this program as opposed to FAA (Food Addicts Anonymous) or OA or Graysheets. "This is the one food program that isn't anorectic", someone said. And when I get to maintenance, I'll be able to eat 8 oz. of protein at a meal. (Based on being almost six feet tall.) I'm amazed before I'm even halfway through. Woweth!

9. What an inspiring and uplifting post!
This is an incredible story. I am so pleased for you and wish you the best! This show from the Food Network might provide you with some good recipes. I just watched it earlier today and she had a woman on with a story similar to yours, but not nearly so impressive.

11. Good for you but...
I'm thrilled to see you taking control of your weight issues. Have you lost these 100+ pounds since January of THIS year? In just 6 months? I hope it's been since Jan of 2002. I worry about any sudden loss of such a large amount of weight.

I've lost 120 pounds since March of 2002. I've been exercising and eating less. I'm basically following a combination of Weight Watchers and diabetic exchanges. I don't feel I'm on a diet rather that I have changed my eating style. I will never be able to stray from this way of eating. I still have a good amount of weight to lose but I'm not in any hurry for it to come off. A pound or 2 a week is better for me and healthier, I believe.

Good on ya for doing this. You've accomplished a lot. Keep up the great work!
