Re cowboys: the 3 real cowboys I know only wear their boots when they're working, off hours they wear sneakers, sandals or go barerfoot. Oh and let your brother know that 2 of these guys have MBA's.none of them have anything good to say about Bush but we're in NorCal. it gives one paws doesn't it?

13. Yeah, my brother is no cowboy, that's for sure.

I love him dearly, but the whole Texas thing with him is so funny. I actually lived in Texas for a while, and the thing is I do think he would be happier there, because Manhattan is so friggin' uptight and it makes him more uptight than he would naturally be. He seemed to really take to the place the one time he visited. I still remember him chowing down at Threadgills as if he had finally found paradise.

One thing I didn't mention, because my parents now know about the column and they're not supposed to know this, is that he's still chewing tobacco, which, no harm to people who may dip snuff now and then, is high up there on the gross-out factor for people who don't share the addiction. And did he pick up the habit from his days out surveying the herd on the north 40? No, he picked it up at an elite prep school in Connecticut. I tell you.

I picked up chewing tobacco when I was in 9th grade in one of the bay area's answer to elite prep school. unfortunately one of my dastardly friends slapped my back during 7th period Latin and I puked my guts out of a 3rd floor window. cured me of the chewing habit after only a day and half. the teacher was excessively amused.
