Novoselic's Political Fix

Former Nirvana bassist writes book about connections between punk and politics

Former Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic is releasing his first book, Of Grunge and Government: Let's Fix This Broken Democracy!, this month. In it, he explores the correlation between punk rock and politics -- from his personal account of Nirvana's history to national issues like electoral reform, voting and "the search for a meaningful Democracy."

Now retired from music, Novoselic has chosen to focus on the political matters he writes about. He's an active member of the Washington state Grange. In 1995, he founded the music community's advocacy group, Joint Artists and Music Promotions Political Action Committee (JAMPAC). And last year, he announced plans to run for lieutenant governor in Washington, his home state.

4. When I worked at the Weekly
he came by for an interview once---he was on the cover a few years ago with his Girlfriend. If I remember correctly (and I probably don't),it was a religous-themed cover where he was either Jesus, or Adam...I can't remember (and I may be thinking of somethign else entirely)

He was SO nice. There were alot of "local & national hot-shots" that came through the offices of the Weekly when I worked there and SO MANY OF THEM were so smarmy and self-centered. Not him. He was supposed to wait in the reception area and instead wandered around the building talking to people.

A gal I worked with at the time had a chance to play with him when her band and his were playing at a local club. She said he was absolutely the nicest and most un-famous person she'd ever met and that it was really easy when you were talking to him to forget that he was one of three people that were in the absolute biggest band of the 1990's.
