What's the WORST video game of all time?
The worst game I've ever played, hands down, is "Superman" for Nintendo 64. This game gives new definition to the word "suck". One review said "it exists for no other reason than to firmly establish the bottom of the barrel". It's absolute shit.

Another horrible, horrible game I played recently is "Driv3r" (or Driver 3 for the uninitiated). That game copies Grand Theft Auto to the letter, but leaves out all the things that make GTA fun to play. Great graphics, accurately replicated cities, and realistic car physics can't disguise a game that insists you play it THEIR WAY or you lost. It sucks.

14. Pong was wonderful...
But I guess you had to be there. When Tempest and Centipede came out, oh my goodness...

That dates me.

And I helped write one or two of the crappiest video games of all time. There is a box in my garage full of old machines and codes that I am afraid to open or throw away for fear that all the crappiness will leak out and destroy the world.

I too wrote a few crappy games back in the Commodore 64 days. One was called "Goober", which was completely pointless. The only cool thing about it was that it used speech samples back when it was very rare, it also looked very slick. I probably spent 40 hours drawing all the sprites on graph paper and translating them into numbers, ugh.. Unfortunately it played like a brick. I think there were 5 or so others that never got past the design stage. All horribly conceived. :)

Edit: You're right about Tempest.. That game was (and still is) amazing. It gets really fun in the later "pulsar" levels. I owned an upright about 12 years ago, but it was stolen. :(

They didn't even bother to finish the game. Here's how I know: No sound, no "awesome CB radio!" as advertised, and your racing opponent never starts. Also, you go through *everything*. Bridges, lights, houses, mountains, you name it.

Worse. Then. Aquaman.

It was also an upright arcade game. I used to have it in my M.A.M.E library, but I deleted it very quickly because it was obviously the worst game ever made.

15. another vote for driv3r
the funny part was i really enjoyed the first two...but i took this one back after a single day...they've had THREE years to come out with a part 3, and they already know the bar GTA has set, but sadly, the come out with total crap..

I did enjoy the larger city sizes, but it's kind of useless without street names or at LEAST names for certain sections of town (GTA). Driving physics were a little improved, BUT just like my biggest gripe about previous Drivers, all the cars (even the 'sporty' ones) drive approx. the same speed...there's no world-beaters to outrun the cops in the game (and i unlocked the secret cars)

And what year is this supposed to be, anyways??? There isn't ONE car that seems to be built after 1980...the soundtrack sucked too...

whoever developed this game needs to be ashamed of themselves...very little improvement from driver 2, no replay value, and an overall presentation that doesn't come CLOSE to their two-year-old competition, vice city (which I still play almost daily)...

GTA just has things much better thought out, and remembered little details, like the radio stations, and humor (which adds a lot)...My favorite little touch is they were smart enough to add rundown and gentrified areas of the city, which driv3r left out (how? miami is filled with slums!) GTA also paid attention to HOW buildings were made, so you can literally look and see one made in the 50s, 60s, and 70s...anyways..end of rant

19. Sim Tower. A game that seemed cool, where you run your own skyscraper
2 major problems

1) The game just let you stack floor on top of floor as you could afford it, showing a blatant disregard for how buildings actually work.

2)After playing it for awhile you realized that this game was merely maxis' attempt to cash in on its popular games like Sim Earth and Sim City by adding a few features to an ELEVATOR AND ESCALATOR TRAFFIC FLOW MODEL! How exciting boys and girls!

38. It was an awful game
and not because of the subject matter.

Terribly made. It's like Grand Theft Auto 3 without the fun.

The load times are brutal, the interior graphics are choppy and unfinished, the enemy AI is worse than similar games from 5 years ago, and it stars Gary Coleman.

It was truly one of the worst games released that year.
