I got the SWEETEST f...ing laptop today!

I am SO glad I like it - as I'll be paying for it for a loooooooong time!

Toshiba Satellite P25-s526

3.2 Ghz P4 w/ HT Technology
800 Mhz FSB
512 MB DDR ram
128 MB DDR video ram
80 GB HD
DVD/CD *everything* drive (it slices it dices it burns and rewrites)
17, yes, 17" LCD screen!!!

This thing is like the coolest thing I've ever seen. It's GREAT, it runs incredibly (and I anticipate even more improvement after I get all of the extra crap off) - and I HIGHLY RECCOMMEND!!!

There's only ONE downside that I can see at this point - and that is that it's BIG. Damned big. I mean I put it on my desk @ work after opening it and it looks GIGANTIC. But - although slightly more awkward, I just LOVE the size of it. DVDs are lookin' TOTALLY bitchin on it as well.

Now - just waiting for F9/11 to come out on DVD - then I'll be harrassing everyone I know without dvd players .... heh!

Wheee!

1. Same as what I bought.
I love it. I don't carry it anywhere though except around the house. We have satellite internet connection where I live so the wireless feature is priceless.

10. Well, I can run FreeBSD on it -
which is important. Trying to clean up the garbage preinstall junk first, and get the windows part as I want it - next, installing FreeBSD!

11. Are you going to format/partition the drive and..
..dual boot? That's always good for fixing the other partition. (If necessary)

13. Not going to format initially - (I'll end up doing that soon enough!)

Just cleaning off the preinstalled junk, and getting my windows install as streamlined as possible, then install FreeBSD in a dual boot configuration.

Will end up triple booting not long after - need to put Windows 2003 Server on there for a study/test environment. Hoping that that won't require a format/reinstall - I know windows gets bitchy if there's something else (non windows) already on the drive - :eyes:

I really don't want to wait to put FreeBSD on though. So - I'll probably do some research on windows specific issues in a triple boot config at work tomorrow - and make my determination from there.

6. Too much!

2k, plus a couple more benjamins for a 2 year extended warranty - bringing it to 3 years total coverage.

Honestly, I CANT afford it. Had to take a loan against my 401k - but my job is gearing up to send me to pre - *I mean* - MCSE school ;) and will be picking up the ENTIRE tab - so it was in my best interest to invest in it as a study tool. It's OVERKILL certainly - just for a study tool - but that's the laptop I ALWAYS wanted but could never justify.

9. Those are awesome! :)

I couldn't go apple - will need mine for a triple boot of windows/freebsd/windows2003 server - that unfortunately won't work on a mac.

A girl that works for my company has one though, and she LOVES it!

OSX, based on FreeBSD, is also way cool!

17. I lust after that every day.
Every day on my way home from work I go in the computer store and just stare at it. The sales guys don't bother me anymore, I guess they got the memo to let the crazy lady look at the TiBook.

I promised myself, come hell or high water, that will be my holiday gift to myself.

14. I have an earlier generation Toshiba
GOt it last Dec. at Circuit City. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles, but it's much better than the Compaq that I had for less than 2 years when the mother board crapped out.

15. My Toshiba is going on 3 years old in a few months
Love it!

The hard drive died on me and I had to replace it, and the DVD player never wants to play a full movie, but I blame that problem on the UTTER SHITITUDE of Windows ME, which the thing damnably came installed with.

Otherwise, the thing has been a charm - took my trip to Hawaii with me, many many many trips to Starbucks and B&N, and a hell of a lot of flights to other places. Even managed a long hike through horrible terrain on a camping trip once. And now, daily trips.

Toshibas are great!!

I have a 15" monitor, which is larger than any other laptop I had, and I wouldn't ever go any smaller than that. 17" would be great! Even with the extra weight, I think the larger screen is well worth being able to actaully see something on the fershlugginer thing.

16. I got a Sony Vaio TR1A--it fits in my purse
plays DVDs, takes pix, and has the Bluetooth.

It is so cute! And powerful- and it doesn't have the overheating problem some laptops have.
