8. Hear! Hear!
Man, you can hear the echos of Beck riffs in so many players. Rolling Stone did a big survey of players, asked them who influenced them. Beck was universally mentioned. Every list.

7. No doubt in my mind: James Marshall Hendrix!
Yes, I find his longer pieces way too self-indulgent, but I'd never deny the man's awesome talent. Go, Jimi, go! :headbang:

22. Ry Cooder? He does it all -- rock, Delta blues, Tex-Mex, world music.
Ry Cooder is a virtuoso on numerous stringed instruments, from Mexican tiple to Middle Eastern saz to Hawaiian "slack key" guitar, but is mostly known for his country-blues-style mandolin, electric and acoustic guitar, and slide guitar.

Ry's played with the Rolling Stones, Arlo Guthrie, Randy Newman, Gordon Lightfoot, Neil Young, Eric Clapton, John Lee Hooker, and the Chieftains. He also was briefly a member of Captain Beefheart and his Magic Ban and Taj Mahal's first band, the Rising Sons.
