since that seems to be a (very good) theme for today --
I work in a small retail shop, only 3 of us there, and i have posted a few times about the freeper attitude of my co-workers.
The manager of the shop lost her SO-roommate in a very horrific way, it was a suicide in a very public manner. Her life was turned upside down, as you could imagine, and then thru a series of unfortunate events, (she just could not get it together) she was forced into bankruptcy.
In order to keep her house (and her dogs, her life) she had to give up her vehicle which she was making payments on. Now the transit system where i live is a joke, all buses go to Seattle, with no direct routes to the suburban malls (where all the (sucky) job growth is, a subject for another thread and another time). The only way she could get to work was to take 2 buses and then climb a big long hill (at least a mile straight up), she is extremely overweight, so this just wasn't going to work
I have a little truck that i hardly use, just for occasional loads of compost (I garden a lot), so basically it has just been sitting for the past 2 years. Good engine, good brakes, good tires, a good daily driver.
I told here i would sell it to her for $500, (its worth 2 or 3 times that much) payable when she could pay. When i went to start it, it would not start, not surprising, as it had been sitting for so long. Her vehicle was scheduled to be reposed that very night, so my husband went up to the auto parts store and bought a new battery for it, and it started right up. We drove it up to her house, signed the papers, so she never did have to take those 2 buses and climb that big hill.
Her bankruptcy settlement gave her $400.00 a month to live off, so I looked at her and said - Listen, before you pay me anything, I want you to go change title. Then next month, before you pay me anything, I want you to go give this little truck a oil change. Then the third month, you can start paying me what you can. Just make a token payment, and if not paid by your income tax return next year, pay it off them. She was a little overwhelmed, so I said all I ask is that you vote for JFK, she laughed and said that she could not do. So I told her she at least had to listen to me about JFK. Just to really make her think, my husband said it was the socialist in him that made him want to help. Anyway, i think it was a pretty nice thing for us to do, and believe me she will never thank us in a way that we probably deserve, but i do understand that you have to give without expecting something in return.
Was this an act of kindness, considering she will drive the truck to vote for boosh? So that is my story of kindness, what's yours?
