Take the candidate selector quiz!
http://www.selectsmart.com/president/

This is a pretty cool quiz on where you stand on the issues - and then it matches you up with candidate's positions on the issues. Might find the results rather surprising :-)

Enjoy!

Interesting, and prety accurate, though I have Kerry at the top of my list right now.

4. Not quite what I expected (this includes non-runners)
I've been leaning Kerry/Dean/Clark, and I hold the Greens partially responsible for 2000.

100% Green. I find that hysterical :D
1. Green Party Candidate (100%)
2. Kucinich, Cong. Dennis, OH - Democrat (97%)
3. Leahy, Patrick Senator, Vermont - Democrat (85%)
4. Kerry, Senator John, MA - Democrat (84%)
5. Edwards, Senator John, NC - Democrat (84%)
6. Gephardt, Cong. Dick, MO - Democrat (82%)
7. Dean, Gov. Howard, VT - Democrat (81%)
------
Pretty much what I expected. I know that I'm more drawn to the ideology of Kucinich, but I don't think he has the best chance at winning, and thus I support Dean and Kerry more.
But I still find this most interesting.

My results:

3. Dean
4. Kerry
5. Feingold

Matches up fairly closely to my inclinations. (except for that "Green Party Candidate" thing...)

8. Although I still am going to vote Democratic
Unbelievably, I scored 100 percent for the Green position (and 85 percent on the Socialist position).
Among Democrats:
Kucinich -- 86 percent
Dean -- 77 percent
Kerry -- 72 percent

Bush -- 12 percent.
John
Not going to vote for Bush, either.

9. My take on the page's deficiencies
Edited on Fri Jul-11-03 12:44 PM by slackmaster
1. Covers a too limited scope of issues.

2. Does not allow enough flexibility in rating of importance. For some people one issue or another, or party membership, or feelings about one particular individual might be a vote-buster. The authors of this quiz have made assumptions about what "High" importance means.

10. It's important to realize
that this uses issues, and only issues, to come to it's conclusions. It does not take into account issues like "electability", etc, even though many voters do.

That doesn't quite track for me, since I scored 100% for Kucinich as well, and I'm pro-choice... :wtf:

On edit, I suppose this explains it. From his stance page:

Abortion Policy:
He received a 10% score from Planned Parenthood and a 75% from the National Right to Life Committee. However, on in early 2003 Kucinich said "as president, I would protect that right , and I would also make sure that appointees to the Supreme Court protected that right."

3. Dean, Gov. Howard, VT - Democrat (91%)
4. Kerry, Senator John, MA - Democrat (87%)

6. Edwards, Senator John, NC - Democrat (83%)
7. Gephardt, Cong. Dick, MO - Democrat (80%)
8. Lieberman Senator Joe CT - Democrat (79%)
9. Jackson, Cong. Jesse Jr., IL - Democrat (79%)
10. Sharpton, Reverend Al - Democrat (76%)
11. Feingold, Senator Russ, WI - Democrat (76%)

I didn't expect that Kucinich would be on top for me. I haven't bothered researching his views, as I felt that his lack of name recognition would make him unelectable. I know I've seen a lot of people on DU voicing support for him - does anyone actually see him as being a viable choice as far as having a chance of victory in 2004? Please, this is a serious question, I'm not trying to bait or troll anyone on this.

Thanks!

17. Classic Liberal
Interesting results. As a life-long Democrat, I'm still always a bit surprised at results like these, but these are my top matches:

1. Libertarian Candidate
2. Howard, Gov. Dean, VT - Democrat

all the way down to last place

33. LaRouche, Lyndon H. Jr. - Democrat (0%).

This just shows me how far the national Democratic party has drifted from its classic liberal roots.

And if any of you want to question my political affiliation, I am an elected Democratic office-holder and a current Democratic candidate. I'm just a bit Jeffersonian.

I'm sure I can spend a lot of time here discussing politics.

I'm just not sure that I belong to the same Democratic party as many of the people here.

In our local Democratic Club, socialist is still a bad word, and Dennis Kucinich is a fringe candidate.

41. My ratings were a little bit of a surprise to me.
What I expected...
Kucinich 88%
Dean 88%
Sharpton 80%
Kerry 77%

Where everything goes wrong!

Edwards 72%
Lieberman 68%
Braun 68%
Gephardt 66%
Graham 59%
Lib. 41%
Shrub 9%
Const. 8%
Lyrouche 0% the only Demo to score less than Shrub!!!

Why does Gephardt agree with me less than Lieberman, I hate Lieberman! And how can Lieberman and Braun agree with me the same percent of the time? Finally why does Edwards have a much higher percentage than Graham, are they not both moderate southern Democrats running on similar platforms?

3. Dean, Gov. Howard, VT - Democrat (81%)
4. Kerry, Senator John, MA - Democrat (81%)
5. Socialist Candidate (77%)
6. Lieberman Senator Joe CT - Democrat (72%)

Lieberman??? What am I doing wrong?! And what are the bloody Socialists doing wrong down there, to score only 77% by my socialist standards?

This was actually quite useful, because as a furriner I haven't bother trying to sort 'em all out yet. That cute thing Joe Biden only scored 62% for me, so I guess I'll have to realize that his warmongering really was the kiss of death (although part of the problem may be an absence of declared policy on some things) and he won't be getting to kiss me, despite how I thrilled to watch him during the Clarence Thomas hearings.

And I suppose there are differences between Dean and Kerry, despite their finishing in a dead heat by my standards. ;)

BuKKKanan: 9%
LaRouche: 0.0.

I'm not sure I agree with those last 2...LaRouche may be insane, but he can't possibly do as much damage as Bush.

I must forward this link to my friends (Sparks, Guns and Fire). I've already been told by Guns "W won't win again" (he's going Dem if they nominate a Vet and 3rd party otherwise), Fire says he won't vote for 'W' again and may not vote at all, and Sparks admitted that "Bush is an idiot", but doesn't like any of the Dems running (but would vote for Fienstien if she ran...go figure).

43. Nobody agrees with me 100% of the time!
:-( Will you volunteer?

One other thing, I hated the question on human cloning because it confused the issue. When they banned cloning they also banned stem cell research! This bill should have been voted down. What was not mentioned was the fact that the Republicans voted down a Democratic bill that would ban human cloning but would have continue stem cell research unfortunately the Republicans and a few Democrats, like Kucinich, voted against that bill. As a result I probably will not support Kucinich in the primary, even though I support his views on other issues.

46. You agreed with Kucinich 100% of time and Bush 26% of the time?
Edited on Sat Jul-12-03 11:17 AM by burr
Other than banning human cloning, I didn't know the two agreed on anything! The only three candidates we have identical percentages on are Braun, Howard Phillips, and LaRouche. Gephardt had a much higher rating with you than with me, even though I actually prefer Gephardt to Edwards! Finally you agreed with Dean, Kucinich, Kerry, and Sharpton more often than did I, even though I have been leaning towards those candidates over Edwards.
