http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/afp/20040812/od_afp/afplifestyle_us_powell_040812193720&e=3WASHINGTON (AFP) - US Secretary of State Colin Powell (news - web sites) will throw caution to the wind this week when he intentionally and publicly crosses paths with a black cat on Friday the 13th, the State Department said.
The secretary is set to break perhaps the top two commandments in superstition by posing for photographs with the feline, a two-year-old male Bombay coincidentally named "Colin Powell," which won top honors at the Cat Fanciers' Association annual show this year, officials said.
It was not immediately clear if Powell was aware that the cat, bred by the Connecticut-based Caricature Cattery, had originally been dubbed "Wolfman Jack" after the wild-haired radio disc jockey because of his ungainly fur at birth.
Improvements to the cat's coat, however, led breeders Sharyn and Sig Hauck to change the name, according to PandEcats.com, an online magazine devoted to exotic cats.
