Poll question: Favorite "regular" or "semi-regular" on the classic "Match Game"
Ah, thank goodness to the Game Show Network for reminding us how goofy we looked in the 70's, but "Match Game" was one of my favorite afterschool treats--it still is fun to watch in reruns. If you recall it who is your favorite regular or semi-regular panelist?

2. I like "Big Chuck" best too, but why
did the contestants always, well, 90% of the time always call on Richard Dawson for "the big money?"

6. Because Richard was money!
He almost always matched, unless the contestant was a little dense.

Which is why they changed the format eventually.

18. He was HOT, that's why
Hot with the ladies, but he's a man's man, too. If you notice, both genders pick him. (Seeing as how I had a crush on him during the Hogan's Heroes run, I can foggily remember why.)

7. Charles Nelson Riley, he's our man.
Can't heal the sick with a touch of his hand.
Can't walk on the water, can't make wine flow,
Just another B actor on the late, late show.

I can't piss, I can't shit, I'm getting no relief;
People shake their heads in disbelief.

It's just me on a hilltop with fifteen girls
In a Nelson Riley orgy that'll make your hair curl.

10. Dawson. Dawson, 100%.
Edited on Sat Aug-07-04 07:10 PM by VolcanoJen
Because Dawson was the go-to guy in the final round. He kicked ass at it. I always felt sorry for the players who were left Dawson-less when he'd go on vacation and what-not.

As another poster in this thread put it, Dawson was money.

How's come Joyce Bulifant didn't make the poll? :+

17. LOL!
She was the mother of the kid needing the heart transplant in "Airplane!"

And true, Dawson was a solid choice for getting the right answers. You went to Reilly when you wanted snark. :-)

12. Charles Nelson Reilly ... without a doubt!
And as an added bonus, he starred in one of the best X-Files episodes ever as well--'Jose Chung's "From Outer Space"'

And like it was mentioned before, he was good at the game, and the contestants trusted him.

And here is some trivia - she wrote the novel and the screenplay for "Fried Green Tomatoes At The Whistlestop Café". (the movie abbreviated the title).

20. I used to wonder...
...what did Charles Nelson Reilly actually do to be famous, or was he just famous for being famous and that's why he was on both The Match Game and Hollywood Squares? My grandma told me, and I think she said he's a playwright...do I have that right?

21. Dawson was the reason why MG had to bring in the wheel...
in the later episodes. However Richard was already on the outs with the show when they brought it in, and he didn't stick around much longer. An ironic bit of trivia for you...the first time a contestant spun the wheel on Match Game, the person it landed on was coincidentally Richard Dawson. What can I say even the gods wanted this man to compete in the super match!

Richard Dawson was the shiznit on that show, and nobody can tell me anything different!
