Ever done any Cuban Smoking?
On Sunday, I sat out on the patio with a big frosty marguerita and my first Cuban cigar.

A MonteCristo Joyitas.

Pure heaven. So delicious. Not harsh at all, in fact, the harder you pulled on it the better it was. It never got too hot.

Share your Cuban smoking experience.

1. If I see a Cuban smoking I assume he or she is on fire.
I get the extinguisher.

Ohhhhhhhhh...a cigar...never mind. So, uh, how'd you come by it?

4. My brother was working in some upscale apartment...
And the guy who lived there gave him 5.

The difference was really noticable. I used to enjoy a nice cigar every month or so, and this was just superior to anything I've ever had.

5. A real Cohiba
is one of the harshest cigars I have ever smoked. My faves are the Romeo E Julietas.

Give me a good Hemmingway, or an Ashton and I'm good. Personally I think most of the Cubans are way overated.

Everyone always thinks I am crazy.......but when you smoke your next cigar, sip a glass of root beer with it! It seems to bring out all the tastes in the cigar.

7. Had a friend in L.A. who always had Cubans on hand...
...around the time he was trying to give up drugs. He never did, alas. He's still alive but in big legal trouble. Anyway, I don't know if it was the hype or what, but I always thought Cubans were far superior in all respects. I'm not enough of an expert to argue one way or the other. For me, they're flat-out the best. Haven't had one in two years.

11. I love my Cubans so much that I only smoke them inside, where i
can enjoy the bouquet of the glorious blue smoke more fully. I'm partial to Bolivars, but have had very lovely huge Hoya de Monterreys, and some fantastic Partagas #4s (the reserve, red label). Thick as a milkshake and just as tasty!

About Fonseca Cigars
It was the Spaniard Don Francisco Fonseca who made the registration of the mark under his surname, in 1907. The factory was set up in several buildings in the capital city, until it was finally established in Quivicán, a quaint small town in the province of Havana.
Since the early years the Fonseca brand became renowned and cherished for the quality and appearance of its cigars. It is the only Habano in the market which is wrapped in very thin and almost transparent silky paper.

16. At the 2000 NC Cigar Crawl...
one of the attendees gifted me a Cuban corona. I don't remember the brand but it wasn't one of the big name sticks. It was a good cigar but I had better ones in my traveldor.

Don't get me wrong: there are some exceptional Cubans: Cohiba if it's real, Montecristo, Punch, Romeo y Julieta, Fonseca...and there are some real shitty Cubans, like most of the Cohiba Esplendidos floating around out there. Because most Cohiba Esplendidos ain't actually Cohiba Esplendidos, even if you get them in Havana. IIRC, it's something like 30 percent of the Esplendidos on the market that are genuine.

OTOH, if you get a Fonseca it's almost guaranteed to be real; Fonsecas aren't as well-known as Cohibas or Montecristos, so the incentive to counterfeit isn't there.

Here's one you'll like: Someone once told me he had genuine Cuban Macanudos. I just about laughed my ass off--Macanudo has never been made in Cuba; it started in Jamaica and was moved to Honduras when all the Jamaican factories closed. I asked to see one. A "genuine Cuban Macanudo" and a White Owl look a lot alike.
