Many times today I have said to myself; "Today is Saturday Eddie." Tomorrow all day long I will be reminding myself; "Today is Sunday Eddie." Sometimes I find it necessary to check my pill box and calender to make sure I am telling Eddie the truth.
Now and then I tell myself an outright lie, for instance; "Today is the fifteenth of April Eddie." I might tell me that in the middle of winter even. I think it is because I always worried about the fifteenth of April; it being tax day and all.
One year I hustled my butt preparing my tax return and dropped it off at the post office just beating the tax deadline. Later at work I bragged to Dean, the kid working for me; "Well Dean, I just finished my tax return and got it into the mail on time." He looked at me said "Ed today is the fourteenth of March."
Yesterday, Friday I called an old friend in South Carolina. During the course of our conversation I had reason to ask him what day was it.
I feel so stupid and old and useless.
"Today is Saturday Eddie." I think.
