25. Thanks for the update.
Yeah, I think our "Shelby" is the same as the "Nicky". It was rumored to have been created for TV anchor Don Shelby in Minneapolis.

33. Here I thought I've been tying Half Windsors
and all along I've been doing a Four-in-Hand.

Showed my kids and hubby too. Learned when my dad taught my brother. I was such a tomboy I couldn't stand to be left out.

4. depends on the tie, so I can't vote
Thin silk needs a full Windsor. Thicker cotton ties make a better knot with a half-Windsor.

26. Yes--Depends on the tie
Either a "full" Windsor or a "half" Windsor, depending on the weight of the tie.

18. It's the state of Texas...
...and we do criminal investigations, so the theory is people will respond to us better, yada, yada, yada...as far as I know, outside of the executives, we are the only part of the agency required to wear shirt and tie.

I think the theory is full of crap. I would only require us to be in coat and tie for court appearances, but I don't run the show.

17. The only time I wear a tie
Is when I'm working a country club or restaurant or other function doing walk around magic and balloon twisting. Then it's a bow tie. Your poll is discriminatory against us bow tie wearers! George Will, Tucker Carlson, Pee Wee Herman, and I are going to the ACLU! :)

23. Bolo ties are for people who never mastered knots, and think silver
and turquoise are smooth and sophisticated. Never, ever wear any tie that's not made of silk. Those of you in the military and are forced to wear cotton ties, you are excepted. Tie a half-Windsor. The Windsor makes any tie look like one of those monstrosities from the '70's. And the four-in-hand is too squareish and clumsy.

the cultural bias that allows someone to flat out insult me, do you?

let's try some other versions:

Afros are for people who never learned to comb their hair.
Saris are for women who've never learned how to work a zipper.
Kente cloth is for people who think clashing patterns is attractive.

get my drift?

of course you've already called me a hic (sic) whatever that is up above, so you seem to have the same problem.

Just making a joke; the only time I wear a tie, I'm in uniform. I guess I'll have to buy me a suit (shudder), for job interviews if nothing else.

32. If I must, I wear a Bow tie
Let loose with those jokes if you must, but I wear a bow tie when I need to dress up. I picked up the fashion from father who proudly wore them his entire life except when he went to trial. I inherited my father's extensive handmade collection because they are really beautiful and we had the same neck size. I may be nuts, but I feel very comfortable wearing one, as if to say, I'm different and you can't change that! I march to my own drumbeat.

34. Do women find men in suits attractive?
In general, I mean, is a suit an attractive outfit for men to wear? I always felt like they were prison attire, but the last time I wore won, I got attention that I usually don't get :) Just curious.

36. I used to work for a menswear company.
One night, a group of us, in work attire (fine suits, shiny shoes, and French cuffs) went to a club to shoot some pool and have a few drinks. All of the other male patrons were wearing beer t-shirts and jeans.
Well, the women just about swarmed over us! It was so cool. They must have thought we were loaded. Dressing up helps in the attention-from-the-opposite-sex department!

37. not sure (heh) but they only get tied once,
never been a shirt and tie type worker, so the 2 or 3 ties i do have get tied once, then when done wear it, i loosen it, pull it off over my head, tighten it up to where it was, and hang it on a hanger.

anyone else keep their ties tied?

42. HELP - I have no idea how to tie a tie
And my father has been trying to teach me for the last five years.

I just can't do it. I think I have a mental block or something.

So for the past five years he's been tying all my ties and I leave them tied and just slip them on.

I have over 40 already tied ties. When I get older (or my dad dies) I don't know what I'm gonna do.

Maybe I'll have to slip the salesperson a $10 to tie all my ties for me.

HELP!!!

:)
