Any assembly language programmers here?
Or do you know of any who might be looking for work in a few weeks - months?

Provided all goes well in the next few weeks/months, I'll be moving ahead with a project (start up company with several other individual) and we'll need a very good assembly language programmer. Preferably mid-Atlantic or Southeast location, but will consider other locations if you want to telecommute. Don't know about pay scale until we get our initial funding...

3. an IP-platform...
with video/audio/telemetry gathering capabilities (that's the core product). I'm a bonehead about the technical specs of the project -- I just do "management" stuff and kick all the procrastinators in the butt -- but if you have a series of questions, I'll get some answers for you.

Basically, we need programmers to develop various Internet-based appliances. We have several appliances but need to develop more.

4. Platform? OS?
I can sling BAL for 370s running MVS, but not for the Z-series, and 808x assembly for the more common PC OSes. Assembly language is rarely used for Unix OSes outside the kernel itself (a possibility if you're doing hardware drivers).

6. well, x86 assembly was a required course
I think it was just to make us realize how many instructions that 5 line C program actually had to turn into

7. OK - I'm gonna let some questions pile up,
then will go get answers, then will get back to all of you in a few hours (I'll hunt the thread down if it's sunk like a stone). I don't know techno-speak, but my technical partner is fluent in it ;-)

Thanks!

9. more info
For those who had questions, here is some more info from our technical guys:

**
Programming for microcontrollers using an 8051 variant
Code involves TCPIP stack + "glue" code for ASICs and other peripheral ICs
Code improvements as well as new code
In addition, looking for coder with experience in Borland C++ 5 professional to develop applications to communicate via TCPIP with remote embedded products.

The "where" doesn't really matter, the corporate office will probably be in the NYC area, but the technical team will most likely be somewhere in the Southeast, like southern-NCarolina, northern-SCarolina or Georgia (not Atlanta, though, probably Athens area). But you can work from home, we're going to try to be a flexible, people-centric company. The product we've developed will be marketed initially to the security sector, but also will be introduced into SCADA markets as well.
**

So -- if any of this sounds interesting, let me know... PM is fine. We're still 4-6 weeks out from knowing if we'll be moving ahead, but I wanted to see if anyone here was interested, or knows someone who might be...

Thanks!
