5. 42 years now.
We started the band in 1962. Also to get girls. It worked really well for the first 25 years or so. Doesn't seem to do it any more, though. We still play but we can't remember why.

13. It's a Sunday Night show.
And we're not going on too late, around 9 methinks.

It might be our last show ever. At least, we don't have any more booked at this time.

16. Maybe. At least for awhile.
It's been difficult to get bookings. Lot's of bands out there, and not enough venues.

Glad we'll be there then for the last hurrah — at least for awhile.

12. It's more Performance Art than anything.
Especially if you think that dropping your drawers and crawling around on the floor of a dirty dive is Performance Art.

:P

4. Do Garage Bands Count?
Or is it only for those that have/had the guts to be jeered at in public?

8. I really need to understand genres better
I played organ in a country band. :wtf:

I played trombone in a reggae band (note, I'm white)

I played slap electric bass in a folk trio :spank:

I think I've got a gig playing pipe organ in a rock backup band

9. Two of 'em.
"The Obscure" (named after Jude, from the Hardy novel) in high school, but that doesn't really count.

In college, I sang & played the gee-tar for America's Sexiest Rock & Roll Band, "The Pokers." If you never heard us play, that's good -- because you'd be spoiled for all other R&R bands. We were that good.

19. I'll claim to have been in two...

Auger - "Released" the double cassette, "Bored to Death" (get it, auger?), half original songs, mostly speed metal with a bit more atmosphere, half covers of all kinds of weird stuff. When I say "released" I mean all of us involved in the 4-track sessions, and most of our friends received a copy of the songs. Our drummer, Roland, was the only one who could really keep a steady beat (ok, Roland was a drum machine, a TR-626). Lots of fun with good friends, a four track, and no clue what to do with them. I should rip that to mp3 someday, before the tape disintigrates...

Bad Fish - named before the Sublime song, and the dozen ska bands to take the name since. Cheesy pop-ish hard rock/metal/whatever. Occasionally backed by the Brass Fish horn section. Played around the greater DC/Baltimore metro area for about two years. Got as far as playing at The Bayou (r.i.p.) once or twice, but not quite as far as playing Hammerjacks (r.i.p.). Played many opening gigs for a former incarnation of SR-71 (Rabbit's Foot, Manny's, probably r.i.p). Will play for home improvement funds.

Will probably sell my old equipment on ebay next month. Anyone want a Seymore Duncan 100W Convertible head, or a Marshall speaker cabinet?

edit: Oh, and then there's my latest "musical" project, linked from my sig, so we'll say it's three, then.

20. yeah I was in my big brother's band. . .
and we changed names for every gig. Brilliant marketing. . .eh. . .? Those guys were great.

Then I moved and tried for a short while to participate other bands.

"Whaddaya mean I've gotta sleep with the whole band. . .? Ferget it!"

Gave up musicians after that. Upon retrospect, that was probably a mistake. Should have given up egomaniacs instead. Especially when I blew off the entreaties of one of the greatest guitarists of all time (who is sadly no longer with us). Dumb. . .dumb. . .dumb.

22. Yeah. I was in a band and they ripped me off!
Took my arrangements and compositions and failed to PAY me for them. The best experience I've ever had in the music business was playing by myself for myself! The connect with the audience is what makes it worth it!
