Golf & Liberals
I've been playing golf since I was a small child. I'm not Tiger Woods, just a low-handicap amateur, playing regularly for fun & relaxation (occasionally competitively) for 30 years.

The vast majority of golfers I've encountered are right-wing, and very right-wing at that. A recent blurb in Sports Illustrated demonstrated that on the professional level. One pro (Jeff Sluman) was asked if there were any liberals on the PGA tour, and he said he only knew of one, and maybe one other.

Should I feel guilty consorting with the enemy so often? They're not going to convert me...

Are there any other good liberal golfers out there?

2. Liberal Duffer here......
I've met a lot of friends of the public courses. At the more "trendy" courses here in C Wiscsonsin I see a mixed bag. Lots of Doctors who's wives are liberal stalwarts in the community.

Generally, I don't discuss anything but the game on the course. I'm so bad that if I lose concentration, I'm headed for a train wreck!

3. greg norman was a friend of Clinton's I thought
I golf, and the only time there's ever more than one liberal on the courses I play on is when I happen to play the same time as this local sports radio host.

Getting into foursomes with three conservatives usually makes for an interesting round. I should put a Kerry for President sticker on my golf bag :D

4. Lots of Lib-Golfers
The course I usually play is in Northern Westchester County, NY. Fairly mixed group. There are some zealots on the extreme right, and some on the extreme left. I find that you can bring up Bush or Clinton positively and get a few people agreeing with you.

5. I used to think I was the only one...
but there are a few people who sound as though they are starting to think for themselves. One is a retired Marine Colonel who sounds as though the Iraq adventure disgusts him. We can take satisfaction in beating them on the course Where are you? Perhaps we could play sometime. (10 handicap)

6. Chicago
though I play in the burbs (hence, my playing companions' frequent views). The city is not known for courses, although there are a few decent ones.
