1. What's this...a swipe at those who like show tunes over
Edited on Sun May-23-04 08:20 AM by ikojo
right-wing crap?

From the article:

"It's been raining a lot and the topsoil is loose," the spokesman said. "You know this president. He likes to go all out. Suffice it to say he wasn't whistling show tunes."

OOooohhh he's SO macho! Please I know people who bike for TRANSPORTATION and have altercations with cars.

I hate, loath and despise this man with more vigilance each passing second.

4. Going all out my ass. . . .
If he was "mountain biking" as the story goes, he could have handled loose top-soil.

What a load of horse shit.

I haven't talked to any of my mountain biking buddies but I would be surprised if this isn't fairly common.

They are actually doing something about it....if only in a revisionist way.

No I am not surprised.

21. OK, maybe...
Even sports such as competitive bike racing put people at risk for having their teeth broken or knocked out when the bike slams down on hard, rugged terrain. Several competitive racers and amateur mountain bikers have recently begun wearing mouth protectors to cushion the blow, Ranalli said.

I just don't see * thinking of this. I bet his doctor suggested it.

mouth protectors are recommended to minimize the risk of concussion... not sure how it works, maybe we have a sports trainer or doctor who could shed some more light on the subject..

7. Funny, I saw video of Kerry riding a bike yesterday in Boston
He didn't seem to have much trouble.

Oh FOX made sure to mention that the bike KErry was on cost $2-3K no mention of what mountain bike W was on.

12. Fox gets it wrong...Again!
If Kerry can get a Serotta for 3 kilobucks, I wanna shop where HE does. The freaking frame ALONE is $5,000...

It's relative. If I can make a goal of "rewarding" myself for reaching a health goal with a $3,000 custom bike, and I make only 39 kilobucks, why shouldn't Kerry be able to ride a $9,000 bike if he wants?

Bush probably wrecked some POS Karl picked up at Walmart. "Yes, George, you have to learn to do this. Polls say everytime Kerry puts those faggy tight shorts on he gets more votes from biking women..."

"OK, Unka Karl, but I'm not wearing those shorts. I'm still sore from that sock roll you stuffed in that flightsuit last year..."

16. Ooops I think I had that wrong
I heard some POS RW talking head (Mike Gallagher?) a few weeks ago mentiong that Kerry rides a $6K bike or something like that. I knew $2-3 K was too low my bad. Hell what does a top end Trek cost?

I have a thread in GD with a picture of Kerry riding YESTERDAY (no training wheels required) I'll go get it and post it here.

You are right I know several mountain bikers and the last time I went to 24 hours of Snowshoe (5 years ago) there were several mega bikes there and not just with the weekend warriors, the down and dirty ride to live work in a bike shop crowd.

24. LMAO..."Despite bike spill, Bush celebrates with daughter"
What a trouper! What a MAN! What a rugged, sweaty, testosterone-in-overdrive macho sumbich we have for a leader!

According to the Houston Chronicle (http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/metropolitan/2587180), "Despite bike spill, Bush celebrates with daughter."

Despite his own personal agony, he pressed on.

Because his daughter was more important than his own suffering.

"Tubb checked Bush out at the scene and pronounced him "fine," Duffy said. The president reportedly declined the offer of a ride back to the house from the Secret Service and finished the bike ride."

LMAO again...Bush was checked out "at the scene"...when medical examiners arrived at the "grassy knoll," it appears that the president had fallen on his fucking BINKY...but wait, there's more...

"It was unclear what caused the president's tumble, although Duffy said there has been a lot of rain in Crawford lately and the topsoil is loose."

Have the medical examiners and forensic experts ruled out stupidity?

"Duffy also noted that Bush is a sports enthusiast and said "he wasn't poking along, whistling show tunes" on his ride."

No, he was playing air guitar to "Ram It Down" by Judas Priest...that's my guess, anyway.

THANK YOU for this fine example of hard-hitting journalism, Houston!

Edited on Sun May-23-04 01:56 PM by slackmaster
Cast the first aspersions.

Not to defend the prevaricator in chief, but just about every time I ride a mountain bike off-road I take at least one good spill. I have scars to prove it.

If you never fall down off a mountain bike you probably aren't riding hard enough. I think it's irresponsible for the President of the United States to engage in dangerous sports.
