Any advice for a graduate?
I am a recent graduate from a Midwest liberal arts college with a degree in Political Science. Does anyone have any good advice about where to find a job? I have a lot of ideas right now, but I am wanting as many options as possible so I do not pigeon hole myself. Thanks ahead for any ideas!!

1. I'm thinking

Law School, and then to your favorite liberal think tank.
(or, work for the second Kerry Administration in 2008).

4. In this economy? Can you dig a straight ditch?
Just kidding.

Good luck, we need good politicians. Grad school can be fun. Then a teaching position in a good college.

8. Great, now I am just scared.
Law school is in the plans, but not until Fall of '05.
I would love to help win this election for Democrats and be able to feed myself in the process.
Looks like I might have to resort to taking job in the manufacturing industry ... "Would you like fries with that?"

11. Could you get a job with a campaign?
There are plenty of Democratic candidates (President, Congress, state/local offices) who need staffers. Recent grads (congratulations, by the way) often go this route.

Good luck.

12. I graduated with a Poli Sci degree under Bush I.
After two years of blah, go-nowhere jobs, I took an entry-level job in state government. Almost 12 years later, I'm still here, although with a few promotions. :-)

13. Are your morals, ummm.....flexible?
I'm always looking for interns that have an uncanny ability to, well, to stretch the truth© a little bit. And by stretch, I mean outright lie.

Best,
Matt

15. Well in the UK.......
many big corporations run Graduate Training Schemes where they'll take on grads from any discipline and train them up in business/IT/management/whatever.

For instance, I got a job in IT with a Philosophy degree, and have recently sidestepped into Event Management for a small family company.

I don't know if US companies offer the same thing, but it's got to be worth looking into.......not ALL corporations are hideously evil and it gives you good life/business experience.

Good luck.

P.
