The Iron Heel
by Jack London. Has anyone else read this book? I read it more than 30 years ago and don't remember much about it. But I have this "tickle" in my brain that tells me that it is apropos of America's current situation. It seems to me that it was a corporate run America. Can anyone help me out here?

Thanks.

1. Holy crap!
It appears to be on-line! http://sunsite.berkeley.edu/London/Writings/IronHeel/

I'll re-read it for myself.

4. Very neat allusion. Iron Heel ...
.... more or less founded the "distopian" genre.

Regarded by some scholars as a prescient outline of industrial totalitarianism.

Is it still in print? I had to run a book search--back in the days when book searches were done by SNAIL MAIL (1983)--because it was out of print at the time.

The spookiest thing, I think, is that the simple Labor/Capital conflict, which we were supposedly beyond, was the core conflict in the book, and it's looming as large now as it has since the Great Depression.

5. I was looking for that book a month ago!
Nobody around here had it though.

I see you found it online which is cool but I still prefer the old style book...

8. Read it 5 or so years ago
London is one of my faves.

"The Iron Heel" is timely to a point, but far better to read his nonfiction essays on socialism and the conditions of the underclass: "People Of The Abyss", "Why I Am A Socialist". "The Scab", and "On The Road".
