Record price for Pollock painting
Snip from BBC News:

A painting by Jackson Pollock has sold at auction in New York for $11.65m (£6.62m), setting a record price for a work by the post-war US artist.

Entitled Number 12, 1949, the Pollock painting was sold by the Museum of Modern Art to an anonymous buyer.

The Post-War and Contemporary Art sale at Christie's, which included works by Mark Rothko and Andy Warhol, clocked up a record $102.11m (£58m) in sales.

1. I used to think Pollack was a hack.
Until I saw some of his work live and in person. I can't explain quite what it is, but there's SOMETHING there. Those paintings just grabbed me and demanded that I look at them closely. Like I said, I don't know what it is, but I no longer think of Pollack as a hack.

2. There have been countless imitators
and very good ones. But in the context of his time, I agree with you

3. Yep - it just looks like scribbling and noodling
but he had a profound sense of balance and line and color.

I'd liked his paintings before I saw in person, and seeing them in person only reinforced their pleasure.

They are far more than mere splashing and throwing paint.

5. Damn you and your laziness!
If you were republican, you would have worked hard and be retired already and living the american dream. But you're lazy, so you're a liberal.

I'm glad you got the card! I still have the twin to your painting.

6. We'll see after the house gets bought...
...it's going to put a small dent in my disposable income, but anything's possible.
