If it's not one thing it's another.

My latest cholesterol test turned out NORMAL for the first time in several years, presumably thinks to the lipitor I've been taking. But there is a spike in billirubin and also feratin, which according to the doc could mean I have hemochromatosis, a syndrome in which the body retains too much iron.

I asked him how hemochromatosis is treated, just in case this turns out not to be a spurious result (which I suspect it is).

He said "We could phlebotomize you once a month." I asked "You mean bleed me like Theodoric of York, Medieval Barber?" "Exactly," he replied "or we could go with leeches if you prefer."

1. Well, if that's what the Book of Common Knowledge calls for
I guess you don't have a choice.
